If you get a good one they are great. health is the real problem as they are larger dogs they get some gnarly health issues. i believe a few years ago they had the most reported bites on people but that is a pretty skew number considering the the huge number of black labs in the states (labs are by far the most popular breed and have been for a long time)
ultimately i 100% believe that attacks are the owners fault not the dogs. a well trained and cared for dog should not attack unless it is threatened or provoked. that especially holds true for pitbulls. the big problem with them is that they have such a powerful bite that when they do attack it is pretty brutal.
iirc the highest percentage of bites goes to poodles
