Thanks pote. Wanted to know if a g5 bolt would work in a g4. The g5 stem looks longer, Does g5 bolt maintain contact with with g5 bolt stem through complete bolt cycle and just dump through holes?

Still not bad if you already have one.

Will it be possible to buy the new bolt and back cap separately, as upgrades for the G4 ?

Thanks syllabuz. I guess the both bolt diameter and the bolt stop location is the same also? Could you also measure stem distance off inside of back cap? Thanks man.

honestly other than bolt stick issues caused by too much lube on the back cap I can't really see much of a difference between the g4 and g5 bolts function wise. If you use an un-modded pmd you are also going to have to use the stock g4 bolt. The longer shaft on the g5 back cap is to compensate for those holes in the new bolt engine. If you used the g5 bolt with a g4 pmd the holes would drop off the stem oring too early and you would get a lot of air going up the feedneck due to the bolt not being forward that extra 1/4" and sealing into the front oring.....

the difference is a bigger dump chamber and better flow of air, its obvious. A big reason the techt engine has such big gains is because of how the air actually flows through the bolt.
basically what ive gotten from this is that the bolts are all interchangeable but they require having their respective backcaps as well. cant just run a g5 bolt without a g5 backcap, not a big deal.
if the trigger and board were also compatible (which i dont think they are just from looking at online pictures) you could just buy all three parts from DP but im sure the cost would be higher than whhat its worth when the entire gun is $330

other differences to the body and acc include...
A series of ridges inside the body on the g5
where it is smooth on the g4
Upgraded thumb wheel and rubber bumper to help minimize wear on the lever
Gone are the feedneck ridges and replaced with wedges...
The raps lever was beefed up
A small bumper was added to minimize wear on the raps lever
The inlet hole was slotted and moved inside the raps
Super milled out under the eye covers
New "flat" eyes ala Fx
New board layout

Are those ridges recessed into the wall of that part? Would increasing the volume that the solenoid has to fill when pushing the bolt back do anything to the speed at which it returns?

I really have no idea what so ever what those deep ridges do....it makes my brain hurt thinking about such things this early in the day, after another 2-3 rockstars I'll be thinking more clearly

I would say the new bolt never loses contact with the bolt stem. It looks like it uses the holes to dump the chamber instead of floating off the bolt stem like it does with the other g series.

WARNING:
to all those who are thinking of putting the G4/spec r TechT bolt engine to the new G5,
it will fit, but THE RIDGES MILLED IN THE BREECH OF THE G5 WILL SHRED THE O-RING ON THE BOLT ENGINE.
that is all.

Thanks for pics and measurments pote.I would agree with disturbed bolt prob. never leaves stem. It's prob quieter than stock g4 bolt due to the way it dumps air, 90 degrees dump to ball/barrel plane. May be a tad more gradual air dump, less pop becuse holes open a little more gradual vs. g4 bolt. To bad techt bolt engine dosen't seem to work with g5.

Since the bolt has no o-rings on it, which o-ring will it shred?
Never mind, I was thinking of the stock bolt, not the techt engine.

Could somebody test the efficiency of a G4 with a G4 stock bolt engine and with a G5 bolt engine to compare ?

sorry, I wasnt specific, I put my extra Techt bolt engine in the G5 and aired it up, major bolt stick right away, I thought a little lube might help, I degassed, pulled out the bolt and noticed that the O ring on the bolt had a chunk eaten out, then I remembered the ridges milled in the breech. I guess its back to the drawing boards for Techt.
And another thing, they changed the locations of the ASA vent holes, from above the ASA in the current RAPS to the bottom of the new ASA.
so no more ASA's blowing orings.
