MacroLess Markers

How do they work? I realize the hose goes through the grip, but what about after that?

I had understood that the first thing to typically occur is the air passes through the in-line (or HP) reg, but how does the air get to the inline reg w/o the macro line?

there are no hoses, its all a series of lines milled through the metal.

Why are some people against macroless designs? I believe they make the argument that you can't really troubleshoot when there's a leak, but at the same time, the air passes through the actual metal so there won't be a leak there, right?

exactly. unless you miraculously rupture the aluminum, the only leaks will be at the joints, and thats usually just an oring

The guns have air passage ways machined into them and they are sealed with static orings.

which would mean, if it had a leak, it would be at the joint orings...

Depends on how the solenoid and valve system is setup inside the gun. Some subtle leaks are easier to pinpoint and diagnose with the ASA and/or frame frame removed from the marker. Since those pieces can't be removed from an internally plumbed (macroless) marker it is possible that that sort of tech work will be made more difficult.

Planet Eclipse and Dye are still the two big holdouts using macro. Planet Eclipse hasn't gone macroless because of the reasons listed above, and the fact that their frames are designed to bend out in the event of a heavy impact such as a player taking a bad dive. The idea being that the marker frame bending will lessen the impact forces somewhat instead of remaining rigid and potentially causing an injury to the player. Not everybody buys those arguments, but Jack Wood(#1 guy at PE) has stuck to them.

I haven't heard or read anything conclusive about why Dye doesn't go macroless, but I suspect that the design of the Ultra-lite frame causes difficulty with space restrictions and strength of materials. Just conjecture there on my part.

This.

I've found that with all the macroless markers I've used I haven't had a leak since it's all through the metal.

There is no hose in a G6R. Its all creative milling and air passages.

As for macroless and leaks.. Usually macroless guns have more O Rings that need to be properly cared for. If you have something like a leak coming from the frame (typically a noid leak) They can be challenging and time consuming to diagnose and fix compared to a gun that you can air up and remove the frame and pinpoint a leak in seconds.

There is one hose in the G6R, from the solenoid to the rear ram.

I have zero interest in a gun with proprietary internal air passages. Not because of leaks, or maintenance, but mostly because there's almost zero customization options. Want a different ASA? Too bad, you're stuck with the stock one. You're a big fan of the AKA 2 liter regulator? Sucks to be you, it won't fit. Want to alter the tank mount setup in any way (drops, stocks, offsets, whatever)? Well you're not allowed to do that.

Yeah, I'll take greater customization options over, what, subjective looks improvement?
