You can put them in the washer. I do. But I put my jersey in the the bag I carry my mask in, and wash them together. The bag prevents the velcro on the pants from tearing up the jersey material. I air dry everything after that as the dry is just another chance at getting snagged on the jersey material.
Machine washing in cold water and air drying will best maintain the life of your gear. You can throw everything in the wash... knee pads, elbow pads, pod pack, jersey, headbands, squeegees, pants... If I've got a lot of shell on my gear, I throw it in the shower and spray any sizable pieces of shell off before throwing my gear in the wash (especially with pod packs with all of their nooks and crannies.)
If there is a lot of mud, dirt and paint caked on, I hose it down outside first to get the first layer of dirt off, then wash and dry as everyone stated above. Don't want to mess up my washer. Just close the velcro so it doesn't snag, and air dry.
Yes. I've been using Tide Coldwater lately and it has been working like a charm! The most important part is to remember air dry because the dryer will damage your gear. I like to do an extra spin dry on my washer. If your dryer has a cold spin, you can use that.
I totally forgot to mention velcro. Yes, close all of your velcro.
Use regular washing machine detergent. Also, Oxyclean works WONDERS in getting stains out of paintball gear. If it doesn't come out during a regular wash with oxyclean added soak the stuff in a tub with hot/warm water and oxyclean for a few hours. Old Ultra Evil stains come right out.
Temperature of the water isn't significantly important so long as you're not using Hot. Warm is okay (assuming warm in your machine isn't super hot).
Depending on if I'm in a rush or not I air dry, or throw my stuff in the drier on "low" for 100 minutes.
