Time rehashed the same article that turned up in England first, as well as several other places.

While this isn't a good thing for any reason, I think it's worth noting that the article is woefully underinforming. There's a ton of factors that can come into this equation, the first of which is velocity. If this happened off a regular field, in an "outlaw" game, does anyone know what velocities they were set to? No info about that in the article. Were there pre-existing conditions? Did the injured person do anything else in the two days between playing paintball and going to the doctor? Were they shooting paintballs, or did some rocket scientist get the bright idea to put something else in a hopper?

Do people get actually hurt sometimes from paintball hits? Sure. It can happen under extremely rare circumstances. However, there's a part in the actual report that's very interesting from a player's perspective:

A purpura (I had to look it up, although I suspected) is a purple mark from internal bleeding. We call them welts. The individual claimed to have been hit twice in that area but had no welts?

It appears to me the report was written with the concept that paintball is inherently unsafe and unhealthy.

I'm no doctor, and I wasn't present when this incident, nor the examination or medical care occurred, but as far as paintball being the only thing that caused this, I'd tend to consider something the great Dr. Gregory House knew as a truth of humanity.

Seems like a typical UK lib article. No evidence of blunt force trauma, is welts, among other things makes this a sensationalism article.

And they are also so anti gun that anything that resembles one must be bad....

Until I see a medical report from doctors explaining how paintballs could cause that level of damage I refuse to believe that it was the cause. More than likely he did something stupid or illegal and didn't want to admit the actual cause to the doctors. New players should rest easy in the knowledge that as long as proper precautions are taken this type of injury is more or less impossible. Remember kids the safety information that comes with ALL paintball equipment is there for a reason. ALWAYS keep your mask on and chrono your markers before you play. If you play on an outlaw field take your own chronograph and make sure the others check their gear as well. Set the safety standard to keep yourself and others safe.

This was an article written by an uninformed outsider, based on a report downplaying major flaws in the relevant injury, which cites another report by someone who has a horrific understanding (or lack thereof) in paintball. In short, it's misleading garbage that cites "facts" also based on misleading garbage. Read the injury report and citation within said injury report if you want to giggle.

This. The UK is extremely anti-gun and most people there are terrified of firearms. I wouldn't take anything anybody from the UK says about firearms or paintball seriously.

Articles like this are stupid and just to get ratings.

I guess the millions or players every year at professionally run parks with Zero eye injuries isn't breaking news and if your liver is bleeding from a PB it would have to be some bouncy cheap *** paint at or above 300fps well within a 20ft surrender distance.

Some guy jammed his barrel into my side and shot me with a PB and caused by liver to bleed. I could see that but this article is lacking alot of info.

Also says this is the first ever reported liver injury.

This just In time magazine as hiring sensational journalists and editors.

much of the reading and information today is going to turds.
Everything agenda driven, and with little to no account for data or fact/cause.

Time magazine=the new buzz feed of print.
