Anybody use Shure SE425's? Opinions?

So I have been using a pair of Shure E5's for awhile now, but they are showing their age. I absolutely love the E5's, but sadly they don't have too much longer. I was looking at the SE425's as a replacement, but was wondering if any of you guys new how they stacked up against the E5's or if you have any other suggestions for in-ears.

I love how punchy and clear the E5's can be without the low-end being too much. Are the SE425's similar? Again, if you have any other suggestions around the $300 mark, it would be much appreciated.

Shure is the only company I have used for in-ears so that is all that I can compare to, although I have used Sennheiser and JBL for many other things.

Thanks in advance for any help I may receive.

Why does it need to be around the $300 mark? Why not $800? Why not $20? They're in ear headphones, not something I would put a large amount of money into unless I was a professional musician.

I should have worded that differently. I don't want to spend much more than $300. Seeing as the SE425's are priced at $300, I was curious if anybody had any good suggestions in that same price range.

I don't have $800 to drop on a pair of headphones, although I wish I did haha.

At $20 I'm not going to be able to get anything worth my time. At that point I might as well use the headphones that came with my iPhone 5.

I don't have experience with those Shure's, only headphones I've extensively used near around that price were full over the ear headphones. Chances are nobody has these headphones in this section of the forum. However, I did buy these from Monoprice and I was pretty impressed.

I'd give that a try first imo.

Review I found for the Shure SE425's. Of course there are others but this seemed detailed.

I used to use a pair of SE215's for awhile. The left ear stopped working. It was probably just the cable which could have easily been replaced, but I just went back to using the E5's.

Looking back, the 215's were a bit muddier than the E5's, but that would be expected. I wouldn't be opposed to going back to some 215's, but I wonder if the sound signature of the SE425's are a bit closer to the E5's. I absolutely love the sound of the E5's.

I think I'll hold off on the $8 buds haha, but the review was really helpful. I read some other reviews online, but none helped quite as much as that one. Most of the others just said that they were good IEM's, which I would sure hope so for $300 haha.

After how many times I've had Shure earbud fail on me, I will never buy another set.

They sound great for the few months that they remain in working order, but that's about it. I baby my ****, and almost always lose earbuds before breaking them, but I had nothing but problems with all of my Shure sets. Personally, I'd look elsewhere.

Really? I had no problems with mine after almost 2 years of use....other than the fact that I left them somewhere on a mountain in Utah.

I even remember washing them on accident and they still worked

I have heard the horror stories of some of their IEM's breaking under minimal use, but I seem to have had luck with most of their stuff that I have used. All of their older headphones that I have used all worked without issue like the E2, E3, and my current set of E5's. The only newer set that I have used extensively was the SE215 and the left ear did stop working, but again, that was probably the cable which is replaceable.

I have been looking around for some other IEM's and I have been looking at the Vsonic GR07. From what I've read about them, they seem to have the kind of punch that I'm looking for, but they also seem to lack some of the energetic highs that I'm getting now. The downside is that I'm mainly going to be using these on Spotify on my iPhone 5, so I can't really adjust any EQ. For that price though, I can deal with that as long as its not a drastic shortage of highs and it doesn't sound like that is the case.

out of curiosity, why do you prefer IEMs over headphones?

I have just kind of grown up with them since my dad has been doing live sound production since before I was born. I have nothing against headphones, but I just seem to always go back to IEM's. They are also very nice to have on the off chance that I get to play on a drum kit.

I own a Sennheiser headset that stays with my computer and use a pair of Sennheiser HD280's on occasion, but I like to have IEM's for on the go. The HD280's are ugly as sin and tend to stay with the sound console. IEM's aren't the most beautiful (My E5's are commonly mistaken for hearing aids haha), but I'd rather get the sound quality out of them than spend a couple hundred bucks on eye candy that goes in my ears.
