Clear paintball masks - Scott, JT Flex 7 and the very rare clear JT Proshield

I've seen a lot of cool, older guns in here but not much other gear. I thought I'd start it off with some of the masks I have.

A friend just listed his clear JT Proshield on eBay so I figured I'd dig mine out and give you guys a bit of the history. These masks were made by JT for the second ESPN series filmed on the infamous "door field." I believe it came out in 1996.

John Gregory (the owner of JT) wanted to make masks for television where you could see the player's face, even though most pro players at the time didn't actually wear facemasks. The masks were too brittle for production and very few have survived until today.

It was with some other "clear" masks so I went ahead and took pics of all of them together. The JT Proshield is in the middle. I got mine NIB from a friend on the Saberwolves (the best woodsball team ever to come out of Tennessee) who got a couple straight from Dave Youngblood back when Dave was stil playing and sponsored by JT. I played my first professional tournament in it and I'm glad I didn't cut it up like a lot of other people did back then.

And bonus pics of me wearing the Proshield in an old JT jersey.

EDIT: Here's an old pic from the Smart Parts catalog of me wearing my clear Proteus goggles at World Cup in 2001. I don't have them anymore though.

I'm loving the old Scott Badboys on left there, never seen clear ones before. That was my mask of choice when fields started banning my Vents Predators - they really breathed well and I don't think I ever ate any paint with them on. I wish I could find a minty pair in black.

Clear flexes actually don't warp easy. You'd have to really mistreat one, they are very similar to the regular JT Flexes. IZE masks are made of much thinner rubber and are more susceptible to warping in the heat. They also don't slow a paintball down much if you take a close one to the mouth.

Badboys and Badasses (I think they were the same thing) are actually a different mask. These are the smaller Scott goggles that aren't as flexible.

I have a set of Vents Predators too. I should dig them out for a pic as well.

It's actually not an IZE. It's a regular Flex-7 that they made in clear like 3 years before the IZE masks came out.

It was a very strange field made primarily of doors specifically for the ESPN Championships. It was incredibly difficult to move up, huge and they added some silly rules about not crossing the 50 until certain times for different players to make sure the games were long enough for TV. It made for lots of stalemates and some pretty brutal upsets. The top two teams in the world (the Ironmen and the All Americas) went home early and an Amateur team should have won the whole event had Rage not pulled off a dead man's walk.

The Scott masks were used by lots of pro and amateur teams in their day. Lockout, Bushwackers, Farside, Thunderstruck, Jax Warriors and more used them.

The Proshields are a lot more rare since they were never sold. Do you remember where you saw a set?

Mine is just an XSV strap from a few years ago. I thought yours was actually a one off sample?

I found a video. God bless Youtube.

You might also see some of the clear Scott masks in this video since I believe both Bad Company and the All Americans used them. However, I will warn you the video is seriously cringe worthy. These players were obviously more comfortable playing in the woods and the video quality is terrible by cell phone standards today.

Bonus: LD's run through at 3:20 was probably the best move of the tournament.
