Cocker 12g questions
Hey guys,
I'm in the process of making a stock class autococker. I was wondering if it would be more efficient/consistent/"better" to run the 12gram changer straight through the VASA or run it through a reg.

If you run it thru a regulator, you won't have to change out the valve and springs. If you don't use a regulator you will need to use an older valve, heavy wgp valve spring, and you are going to need to put some stuff in the air chamber, that is behind the pump rod to take up some volume. If you don't do this you will have problems keeping you fps from surging to unsafe levels as the 12 gram gets lower.

Honestly, if you're going the stock-class way, Nelson is what you want. 'Cockers tend to be less efficient with 12-grams in comparison.

If you devolumize, a regged sniper can get plenty of shots from a 12g.

So in my testing I found that an unregged cocker with HP internals i could get 20-25 shots on a 12g. Threw a bucket changer on a Stock internaled pump(regged) and i got 40-43 shots on average. Now I tried it on my T2 last summer and i managed to get like 27-30 shots(regged)
So although springing makes a difference, having a reg helps a lot. Also the regged shots were normal consistancy over the chrono. The un regged gun was all over the place(+-20fps) same paint/barrel match.

Thanks guys, seems like I'll be running it through a reg. I appreciate it.

I'd agree normally, but this is for a in-field contest. I've milled the sight rail and feedneck off my vert feed and set up for a Phantom horizontal feed , grabbed some CCM parts and internals and a AKA bolt. currently waiting for my valve tool to come in.

I don't know that I would use standard CCM internals for a 12g build, regged or not. You will still want to re-spring to optimize for CO2.

Sounds like you set your gun up for a decent low pressure build which would be great if you werent trying to run 12G off it. Switch the stock internals and heavier springs back in.

2 cents:
If making a pure stock class cocker, I used a Pre 2k body, 98 exactly, used stock valve and red springs for valve and main, matched ball to bore and get 25-30 good shots of 12 gram with 4+/- fps, now this was mid summer so 12 grams warm. Winter play shots drop to about 15-20 with little more inconsistent fps .
Reg'd 12 grams way more shots I'm , need to try on a Pre 2k body maybe.
Personal preference for stock class is the new Lapco ghosts. Get the barrel freak bored and you can literally get 40+ shots on one 12gram at avg 275 before the 12 gram dies.
Also look into palmers vertical in line reg for stock class. Team mate has on his cocker and holds velocity very tight.

I've seen the inline stabs. I'll probably grab a 12g optimized male stab or find another Evolve Pi reg. I'm looking at a tornado valve right now, but I realize that that's LP. I mainly wanted a stock class for said contest as well as to challenge myself when playing against electos and mechs in recball. I'm going to be getting it up and running next Saturday hopefully.
On a side note, where would I find me an old WGP Sniper stock?

Likely attached to an old WGP Sniper. Or in the aluminum scrap bin at Home Depot and the "black" shelf of the spray paint aisle.

You actually don't need to devolumize and in fact I suspect devolumizing may be counterproductive with a reg.

I was thinking the same thing. More volume with a lower pressure would/should allow more shots per 12g, as well as being more consistent due to the reg.

Russc's work suggested otherwise.

Link? Unless something new has come up, the best results seemed to have come from guns that had basically nothing done to them.

Are you referring to the stuff on that "other" Forum?
I think I saw that...
I would like a link as well, less because I doubt it and more because I want to know.
Edit - found it. http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=3032401.
His work seems (to me) to show that a regged 12g on an autococker without devolumization or HP internals...

..Gets much better efficiency and consistency than a de-volumized, pre-2k, HP valve 12g setup does.
