....It is what I do on saturdays......cuz im too f'ing sore the next day so I cant do it on sundays cuz i gotta work....
when i used to work there (4+ years ago), volunteers were used to clean up the stadium field. the volunteers also cleaned the rec fields on rare occasions. volunteers were given a free entry to play for every 2 hours of work. no free food, but were rationed 1 gatorade per volunteer. the pass gave the volunteers free entry and rentals, but not free air.
i am not sure if the volunteer program is still in place now or not. i do remember that most of the volunteers were local kids who developed a reputation for not following the rules (outside paint, cheating, overshooting) which resulted in a number of regular customers (who were members or paid full price and visited the park multiple times a month) complaining and/or leaving for the day. this may/may not have had a factor in the termination of the volunteer program.
when i heard that the staduim field was converted into an airsoft arena, i was genuinely brokenhearted. i remember when it was first built (2005, after removing the skatepark), rebuilding it in 2007 (but with the same putt-putt golf turf), all of the numerous tournaments held there (cal jam, spyder cup, bears cup, OSC, splat riot, XPSL, etc), and being there for the practices with all of the pro and divisional teams. but i guess in time the stadium had more sentimental value than monetary value.
if HSP were to build a full sized airball field again (at least 130' x 190' to accommodate both PSP and NPPL field dimensions) with the normal bells and whistles needed to be on the same level as other tournament parks (good turf professionally installed, air stations separate and independent from the front-4.5k, a current PSP and NPPL bunker set), i would definitely make myself available to help set up the field for practices, etc.
