Stupid Question
Really newbie question. On mechanical guns they have mechanical safeties. I am just getting into speedball and getting a drone dx soon. It has an on/off asa so would that be the safety or would turning the marker off be the safety? If neither of these are the safeties, would i just have to be careful not to press my trigger?

Your finger and barrel sock is the safey. If you can't keep your finger off the trigger then buy a marker that has a safety.

Both can be used as safety's but you also need to be careful and just keep your finger off the trigger. If you do accidentally fire you have the barrel condom. I usually turn my marker off if I am not using it right then and I always de-gas it between games.

I usually turn off the marker and loader between games to save batteries ( probably saves extremely little life but whatever). I usually don't de-gas my maker because I'm not used to doing it and forget to gas it back up before the point. It's all up to user preference but be sure to always have your barrel sock on BEFORE going into an area with people not wearing googles.

Turn off the marker and loader between games. Even though you have a barrel sock on you don't want to mistakenly fire and clog up your barrel. You don't need to degas though. Just turn it off between games

Barrel sock AND turning off gun. Just because you thought you turn off your gun, doesn't mean you did. You could forget, move your finger off the button just a hair too early, or any number of things to where you didn't actually turn it off.
That being said, you can't rely on just turning off the gas. Many guns will trap air beyond the regulator, many times with enough air to shoot 2 or even more shots.
Turning off the loader doesn't do anything other than save battery life. Unless you are truly out of paint, then there will be a ball in the chamber, and in the feedneck.
In the end, the barrel sock will take care of forgetting to turn off the gun, or forgetting about the remaining air in the gun, or that one paintball that bounced around the hopper before getting fed right before you turned off the hopper, or whatever other scenario you can think of. Get in the habit of covering your barrel whenever your get off the field, and not just putting it over the barrel, but also putting the strap on as well. I've seen people just slip the cover over the end, and as they're walking around it slips right off.

You should not degas your marker at any time unless you are done playing, or performing maintenance. Degassing the marker can change your velocity or cause you to start a game without the air system enabled.
The primary safety device on any marker is the barrel sock. The secondary safety on an electronic marker is the circuit board - turn it off to prevent accidental firing. Verify that it's off by pointing the marker in a safe direction and pulling the trigger before you sock up and exit the playing field. If these two safety mechanisms are not sufficient for you, use a mechanical gun with a physical safety device.

usually I will turn my gun and hopper off on the field and like shoot at the ground or something to make sure its off. Then I put the barrel bag on and walk off. Keeping your finger off the trigger is good. BUt the barrel sock is the main safety feature.

You just have to turn your marker and hopper off in between games. No need to de-gas it

yeah. I always turn it all off between games, I don't wanna sit there draining the battery for 20 minutes, it takes 2 seconds to turn on and off and it's definitely not gonna fire when it's off...

Just get in a routine as you enter and exit the field. For me, it's: goggles on, walk through the net, gun on, barrel sock off. At the end of the game, barrel sock on, gun off, walk through the net.
I believe the subject of repeatedly gassing and then de-gassing your marker has been discussed, it's overly harsh on the internals parts and seals, and should be avoided.
