is there suppose to be large amounts of air exhausted through the bolt guide?

So what's happening is I'm getting shot down for 4 pulls, then it fully cycles. When it cycles, at 250 fps, lots of air comes out of the bolt guide.

reg at 200, dwell at 9.

Yes it's supposed to hit you with a puff of air it's due to the QEV holes.

my abs is set really high but i still need to pull the trigger 4-5 times before it'll fully cycle. any idea why that's happening?

Your dwell is to low and ABS only affects the first shot. Up your dwell 9 may be to low for a new non broken in eigenbolt. Up your dwell one by one until your bolt cycles.

Hey jim what do you make of this?
I was cycling the crap out of my bolt with just air to break in the bolt and every once in a while I could hear it drop off during the firing. It was set to an input pressure of 160, and a dwell of 12MS, with no recharge so it was probably firing at about 20BPS, being a cricket board.

I'm guessing im doing this right since I'm running into the same problems we all have been. Im starting to see the oxidation it seems:

but what's up with this:
It looks like the annodizing is wearing away right there. Have you or anyone else seen or reported anything like that?

I'm wondering why I'm getting drop-off now too. What do you guys say/think?

That black sludge is normal during breakin. The drop off is from the sludge mine did it aswell. And as for that spot IDK its not a sealing surface so when the bolt cycles its not touched or afected by orings so if I had to guess I would say it happened during bolt removal. Also buy the looks of that bolt sleeve your overlubing.

OK less grease and the scratch must have come from bolt removal. How long did it take you to get through the sludge?

I did mine by hand. I used tight orings and overlubing. Slid the parts back and forth until sludge built up then cleaned it away real good and repeated until no sludge built up anymore. Then just relubed as normal.

So you just cycled the bolt by hand while it was in the can, sleeve, and bolt guide with the spring? how long did it take you till it stopped giving off the sludge?

well jim, I sat and watched an hour and a 1/2 of a 2 hour KoRn concert video on youtube while manually cycling the bolt through the parts. I tried sliding the bolt through the individual parts of the assembly, but it didn't seem to turn up any of the black sludge. So I began sliding the bolt through the entire assembly, with the spring, and it did get a little dirty but nothing close to the picture i put up above this post. I'm guessing I got rid of the majority of it during the dry-firing I was doing. I put about a full 4500PSI worth of air through it and and about 3 pods of left-over paint through it as well. After working the bolt through the parts, I greased it appropriately, not suuuuuper greasy like how my bolt sleeve looked in the above picture, but the assembly is pretty slick and the bolt slides nicely through all the parts. I put it back into the gun and then aired it up, no leaks. Pulled my detents out and dry-fired one shot, no drop off. Fired a few shots at a slow speed, like 2BPS and still no drop-off, and then i let into it and got it to ramp into 20BPS and it didn't sound like it had drop-off at all nor did it have any FSDO, which i forgot to mention was present before working the parts. I wanna say it feels smoother when it shoots now, but I think I'm just having a placebo effect because I sat and worked with it. Aside from the sludge, could the mega grease have also been a culprit responsible for the drop-off?

Yes it could have. Overlubing causes alot "sticktion" in the bolt will cause things like FSDO and shoot down. And mine again was the same when I did it by hand there was much less black stuff but I never had any on the outside of my bolt like you did mine was all on the internal bore.

I need to get my shocker project finished so I can then waste my time dry firing the hell out of this thing...lol I want it buttery smooth.

also debating picking up a couple more (and eigenbarrels) for possible future projects.

Any remedies for FSDO with the eigenbolt? I'm getting FSDO now, which is weird because I've NEVER had FSDO problems with any bolt I've had in either of my shockers. Upped my dwell from 10MS to 12MS to 15MS and still having FSDO issues. I've ran 12,600 PSI worth of air through it, more than half of it was with paint, and that is all. I haven't had a chance to actually play because the fields I go to are all closed due to flooding. It's strange to me that It's having FSDO, because mine has great fitting o-rings, it isn't super over-greased like I was doing before, and my bolt guide is backed out a lil like I've heard others say to do. To see, I threaded it as far as it would go into the gun (hand tight only) and the same problem is still there. More break in time or what?
