If you are thinking you may eventually get into tournament play, I would recommend one with an LCD/LED screen to easily/quickly verify settings. Ego 07 and newer would be my recommendation too along with many others on this thread. My son loves the Ego 09 (we have two of them) and he prefers them over his Ego 11 which we just sold. In our opinion, if you put a POPs and all of the extras (plank kit, Zick2, Pooty mod Cure 3+ bolt, etc) on the 09, it's just as good as the 11. You can start with a good stock one and upgrade it over time.

I've been in this position before... ended up selling a lot of gear to get up to a mini. I HATED the mini lol. I got to play with an 07 ego shortly after and I was hooked. It felt great in my hands, I could hold it better and in my opinion, I just thought it was overall better in every way possible. I have an 07 now, love it. I wouldn't recommend going any older than an 07 because of parts and what not. With your budget, I'd say look into an etha. Shoot nice, feel good, easy to take care of. It's still a nice gun.

Don't listen to this guy. An Etek3 or 4 will have most or all of the newest parts on the market. They shoot just as good as older Ego's if not better. If you buy an older Ego you're taking the risk of not having replacement parts in the case something does break (ie qev/solenoid/etc). Eteks are bang for your buck and it all depends on your budget.

Wow...so in 1 month...being new to paintball...you've already picked up an Ego6, an Ego8, Etek3, and selling an Etek2 And an Etek3...
Boy...that's jumping right in there.

haha at least Im not whoring different brands. I like PE, just upgrading when the opportunity comes up. I was about to pull the trigger and go for the Ego 11 at $600. I know the price was amazing its just I know its an overkill for me.

Would've been better than buying all those guns. For $600, that would've been the best deal. And you pretty much wouldn't need a new gun for a while, not a back up.

I suppose it would have kept him out of the BST business though...
That Ego11 would have been solid at that price!

Find a cheap ego7/8. in my opinion one of the best bangs for your buck out there. You could probably find an ego8 for 300 if you like hard enough

i had an ego9 and liked it quite a lot but if you get the DART kit for an ego11 it just magnificent. even the stock ego11 i must say shot considerably better than my ego9 and it felt much better in my hands being a bit longer

After owning a 5, (3) 7s, 8, (2) 9s, and 11 I can safely say that the Ego7 is the best value around. I picked up one recently for a back up at $275. I find myself liking it just as much if not more than my ego11.

I think EGO 7's would be the oldest Ego that you would be able to still fine parts. Plus in my opinion Ego 6's to 7's had the greatest jump in aesthetic looks

The oldest I, personally, would go is an ego 8 or an sl74. Only for the ease of maintenance . The 07 and older had the shim stack in the reg and was a real problem to relube and maintain properly. The sl74 and on had the spring making maintaining the reg a real breeze.

i would personally get a Ego 10 or newer/all eteks or newer/geo 2 or newer.
My personal reasons is i had a ego 8 that the lcd started going out and in order to change the lcd you have to buy a whole new board. With the ego 10 and geo 2 and newer just the lcd is replaceable. As far as eteks. I had a etek 1 and i loved it. It was a little heavier but it shot great.
Ive had ego 7/ego 8/Sl74/Ego 9/Geo 2 loved all the egos they all shot well just realized im more of a spooie guy. Thats why i own a geo 2 and a luxe
