its really easy, built my first about a year and a half ago. in the end its only about ~10 or so pieces and other than some confusing connectors, it only goes together one way. check out newegg's videos on youtube. they have a 3 part series that goes step by step, part by part of building one. it really helped me out.

Just read the manual for the motherboard for the relevant connections. Other than that, just be sure your components will work together. If you're worried about JUST putting it together, that's the easiest part.

Okay the items so far I have found:

1. EVGA nVidia Geforce GT 620 2GB, DDR3.
2. Corsair Vengeance 4GB DDR3 DIMM 2 Pack
3. Intel Core i5 3570K Processor
4. Cooler Master: Elite 430 Mid-Tower Chassis
5. Startech 2 Port PCI Superspeed USB 3.0 Card Adapter
6. Seagate Barracuda 1TB Internal Serial ATA Hard Drive
7. Dynex Replacement Power Cable.
8. Asus Micro ATX Motherboard 1600/1333/1066MHz (Socket 1155)
9. Cooler Master- eXtreme Power Plus 500-Watt ATX CPU Power Supply

Anything else I need to add? Perhaps safety equipment when building the PC? How about better components? Right now it's $720.30 after tax. I am willing to go $750, maybe a bit over if I can find something that'll last a bit longer or is better quality.

These were all found on BestBuy.com

Video card is pretty awful. Not sure why you need that USB 3.0 adapter, or the replacement power cable. Most PSU's come with the power cable. What are you going to be running on the PC?

EDIT: Why are you on bestbuy?

Why a replacement power cable? And you didn't list prices but I've never heard of anyone using best buy to build a computer.

I can't say for sure because I'm not going to check, but I'm pretty sure you should be shopping at tigerdirect, amazon, or newegg. They should have much better prices. You don't need safety equipment, unless you plan on building this this on a wool blanket over a rug wearing footy pajamas (built it away from those things).

The K in the 3570K means you can overclock it (turn up the speed by playing with come settings). If you do not plan to overclock it then you can save some money and get the non-k version. If you do plan to overclock it then you will need to deal with extra heat, so you need a good cooler.

Any thoughts on this? Not sure if it's worth the upgrade from what I currently have.

Thanks for listing those sites. I didn't know any good sites to use for buying computer parts. The reason for the power cable and USB Adapter was I might need extra USB ports, nor does the chassis list it has more than 2 USB ports. As for the Power Cable, I didn't know if I needed the cable or not. There was no description of one being included.

For the video card, what would be a good one that wouldn't kill my wallet?

The PC is going to be a jack of all trades computer. All the basic web surfing, e-mail, Word and Powerpoints. Want it to handle games decently but not looking for the motherload of all gaming PC's.

660 or 660ti or 7850 or 7870

Watch your prices drop like crazy when you pick parts on newegg.

If you have a microcenter near you you're going to want to get your CPU and maybe mobo there, their 3570k is like $40 less than newegg and they've been running some crazy deals if you want to bundle it with a mobo. You might even be able to get away with getting more stuff there as their prices often rival newegg.

Microcenter has a gtx570 for $150 after rebate, by far best bang for your buck right there

I've bought two power supplies and both have included the cables. For a video card, I'd recommend a 7870 or equivalent.

edit: you said not much gaming...but I still wouldn't go much cheaper. I imagine gaming would be miserable (i.e. worse than 30fps console gaming) with anything worse.

That's just crazy talk. A 7870 does a little better than "decent" in video games. He could probably spend half that price and still do alright. Although if the budget is there, its a solid card.
