Yup, still over here. Give me a heads up on when you are coming through, I'll put a brisket and some ribs on the smoker.

Definitely glad I've got this rig. Funny I maxed my GPU out but really only play War Z, dishonored, BF3, etc. My wife wants to get me 2 more monitors (to give me 3 total) or a water cooling setup for Christmas. So far all my research has pointed me to is that "EK is good ****".

Just a warning, water cooling is very addicting, and very expensive.
Copper seemed to be a better choice when comparing thermal conductivity. Custom water setups look so awesome, but they are pricey. The EK kits I've seen are in the mid $200s. I'd love to do a red LED/liquid setup.

What is your preferred source of water cooling parts?

Newest I could reasonably afford is 09 probably, but I don't want to spend that much. I'll probably wait a bit until the next generation comes out and drops the second gens down a bit. I'm really in no rush.

What's the base price of a new one?

I don't have a preference. I used EK, swiftech, xspc, and koolance parts in my water cool build. Since I had swiftech blocks on my GPU's... which is restrictive blocks... and chose EK ram and XSPC cpu high flow blocks so I can have better flow rates. Using 2 pumps helps with flow rate too. I also water cooled my MIP's... which isn't necessary. It's mainly for bling... since it looks cool. I might change my setup to red since I have that annoying red LED on my sound card. But that would mean I would have to re-sleeve all my cables.

I think base price on a brand new CTS-V is around $63k. Way more than I can afford. I'm still saving to buy a house in the next 5 years.

I'll start looking at putting my own kit together and see what you guys think of it. I need a mobo with red LEDs!

Newegg has Western Digital VelociRaptors on sale right now. 7200rpm Western Digital hard drives are around the same and some are more expensive then the sale price for the VelociRaptor 300gb and the 7200rpm drives have worse reviews. Picked one up for my game drive (currently using an old 80gb and steam just pushed it down to 3gb free space lol).

I'll be in a similar predicament in a few years when I'm out on my own. Come hell or high water, I'm getting an m5. A new one (2017, I think) would probably be doable for me, but if that fails I know they depreciate like crazy so a used one would work nicely, too.

House first, regardless. Kudos to you for having your priorities straight.

Whatever you do, don't pull a Pete and buy one that's going to be out of warranty soon, and then immediately after, get stuck with a VANOS issue that's a $12,000 fix...

Hah, it's because of that incident he had that I'm weary of getting a BMW or a CTS-v

Also, off topic. I just got a ticket today. Recorded speed: 535mph (yes, five hundred thirty five miles per hour) in a 35.

I'll take a picture of the ticket (its a print out directly from the radar).

Passive CPU cooler, wonder how well it would do and if it rated for OCing

Plead innocent. Go to court. Tell the judge "I've re-read the ticket and I have decided to plea guilty. I was absolutely wrong to be driving 535mph in a 35mph zone and it won't happen again."

I don't know what to do. I'm charged with 40 in a 35, but it still shows recorded speed (by Lidar) as 535. I'm sure they will drop it considering he gave me specific advice to fight it. He gave me two other tickets (license and insurance) that I wasn't in compliance with due to me being an out of state resident. I just have to go in and show current insurance and a letter from the IL dmv stating my license renewal is required within 120 days of returning to IL.

Exactly, that's why I would prefer a new one. I would have to really scrutinize a used one prior to buying it.

If the ticket legitimately says 535, bring it to court, I promise it'll get dropped. The judge will probably laugh, and ask for the ticket so he can copy it and frame it.

There are a lot of things I don't like about the newer ones. F10 or F30s, I can never remember which was which between the new 3/5 series. Pete's was an E60 though. Had it for like 2 years, maybe less?

****ing win.

I'm just glad the cop was friendly. He had no intention of reprimanding me past a warning.

Someone recommend me a motherboard and CPU only. Budget $500 max. Have everything else, but if you can include a USB 3.0 case as well, I would like to upgrade that.

Planning on learning Revit so I will be doing that obviously, games, etc. Already have a GTX 460 that I can probably use for a while. Not really planning on doing SLI in the future. Want to overclock. I have a hyper 212 plus that I may be able to use in the new sockets, not sure. Otherwise the stock heatsink would be fine for some time.

I don't have a Microcenter, I have Fry's Electronics next to me but they're meh on CPU deals lately.

Currently using a Q9450, with 4gb of RAM. Is waiting for Haswell or whatever worth doing now?
