I'll look around. Any particular preferences? AMD or Intel cpu? Discrete graphics?
I love seeing SSDs becoming more and more affordable
I'd love to get another 120gb or bigger for just games.

i would like to be able to play simple games on the laptop but not like hardcore gaming or anything. also idk if intel or amd makes better cpu's that was one of my main questions actually.

Most of us prefer Intel if the budget allows. $500 is doable, ill see what the interwebs provide.

Oh yeah, the 680s are beast. I was tempted, but I don't have budget/am not crazy enough to buy a 6990.

I can't decide whether I should spend $350 total, and use some of my old parts, or if I should just buy all new parts, which will push the cost up to around $700.
I'm kind of leaning towards all new parts. Christmas is coming, and I have no dependents, so I might as well just spend it all on myself, right?

Looks good.
-A 660ti will definitely hold up to SC2 and will on practically all games out right now. I'd keep it.
-You could always go with a cheaper PSU. I'm running a i5-3570k, 1 SSD, 2 HDD, a 660ti, 3 case fans, and a dvd drive with a 500watt (probably pushing the limits).
-A cheaper motherboard could save some money.
-The hyper 212 isn't deffinitely necessary, though nice to have.
-A 120 SSD hard drive will fill fast. I ended up getting a 120 for the OS and ended up buying a 300 gig HDD. If you go this route you would need to make all the above sacrifices to offset the price of the HDD unless you want to buy it later.
A lot of people will oppose those ideas, but if you want to save money you have to make sacrifices.

I'd recommend a CM Quick Fire Rapid. It's a TKL and made by the same OEM as Filco for at least $50 cheaper. I've heard horrible things about the Rosewill mech's not lasting because the micro usbs are horribly made. Just spend the extra $25 for the QFR and don't look back.
I'm about to pick up a QFR with Cherry Green switches. I'm super excited.
EDIT: those Rosewill boards are still ~$100 depending on what switch you get. Just get the QFR and don't worry about not getting a rebate.

Everything there? Ordering tonight.
Also, I'm trying to find a way to save some cash here, and I'm thinking I may go with a cheaper GPU. Any suggestions? Trying to run SC2 on High/Ultra.

Maybe drop to an I5? If you dont need the hyper threading. I won't drop the gpu.
What else are looking to do with your pc?

I feel like the 120gb drive will be good enough for a while. I've been using a 64gb XP partition on my Mac for months now. It's only sitting at around 33gb right now. Not sure how big W7 is though.
I'll look into maybe getting a smaller PSU. Not sure though, because that one seemed very well priced for its output.

Already bought the i7 for $200 on Sunday. Microcenter had a hell of a deal.
The main goal for this build is to be able to play SC2 on Ultra while streaming via Xsplit, at something close to 1080p hd. That's why I went with the i7 here to begin with. I can always add in another drive for storage later anyway.
Newegg sold out of the ram I wanted, so now I'm checking for something comparable.
Thanks again guys.

I can vouch for the replacement on the Rosewill stuff. I got a new one in like 24 hours after filing for an RMA. I needed a new one a few months in, then the replacement broke also in a few months. They have removable USB cables and the port where it plugs in is very flimsy and the cable is very stiff. If you move your keyboard around a lot (I do) then it destroys the solder joints in no time at all. Otherwise I love the thing.
If anyone else has the keyboard I actually fixed this issue permanently if you need any tips. I opened up the keyboard, cut open the USB cable, soldered it into the board, put in a stain relief, and ran the cable out of the left side of the keyboard through a tight hole so it should never come lose again.

This is basically what you have to do with the Rosewill's, but it's absolutely worth the $25 jump in price for the Quick Fire Rapids. A costar board like that will be much better in quality.
