*Official* Building/Upgrading Advice Thread
I have noticed a lot of people lately with question about building/upgrading a computer. (Including me) I just though it would be a good idea to make an organized thread so the board wont be cluttered.
For building just post your price range, and what you want to to with the computer
For upgrading just post your current system specs, your price range, and what you wan tot upgrade.
I hope this helps everybody out,
Nick

32-bit OSs can address 4gb total memory. Your RAM is the last to be allocated, so if you have a 512mb graphics card and another 256mb worth of various controllers (yes, your computer needs memory for that), you'll end up with about 3.2gb RAM max, no matter how much RAM is physically installed on the mobo. If you have more VRAM, you'll get less usable RAM.

So looking to do a little refresh cause my case sucks, 2 HDDs and an SSD on a 430w psu is pushing it and more ram never killed anyone. Plus I think thats the most futureproof ****. Looking at this case , this psu and ram. Any suggestions or opinions about these parts? Is 650w good enough for next-gen **** or should I go 800w?

I have Corsair PSU, Dominator ram, and 800D case... and happy with those. However, my corsair sp2500 speaker system is just okay as far as sound. I got a good deal on them through amazon at the time... so I'm happy with the quality for the price I paid for them.

Hey Colin... I'm doing good. Just working a lot. Glad to see you still have your rig. Still in Delaware? I might go to PA for a conference next year.

That's good, I just got off an 18 day straight stint at work. I'm my section's AFSO21 manager and we had an inspection last week. Took me over 2 weeks straight (12hr days as usual, no days off) to get my section prepared. We got an excellent rating and I got an "atta boy".
AFSO21
Yup, still over here. Give me a heads up on when you are coming through, I'll put a brisket and some ribs on the smoker.
Definitely glad I've got this rig. Funny I maxed my GPU out but really only play War Z, dishonored, BF3, etc. My wife wants to get me 2 more monitors (to give me 3 total) or a water cooling setup for Christmas. So far all my research has pointed me to is that "EK is good ****".

EK has nice looking waterblocks, but they had issues with their nickel plating last year. It might be better now, but I would stick with copper blocks to be safe. Swiftech has good stuff too... but their blocks are more restrictive. EK and Koolance have higher flow rate blocks... but it all depends an all the components you want to water cool before at blocks, pumps, and radiators to purchase. Just a warning, water cooling is very addicting, and very expensive.
