What Barrel to use on my empire axe

Hey guys,

I just purchased an empire axe. The current Barrel I have is a CP 2 piece .689. I went over to my local paintball shop and noticed they had a .685 barrel. I'm confused in which size I should have my barrel. I'm thinking the .685 will have a better shot, but then I know ball sizes differ. So with the barrel I have is it good? and what type of paintballs should I purchase with my barrel? Or would you recommend getting a .685 size barrel.

personally i have multiple barrel backs so i can match match bore to my paint that i am shooting. If i am shooting a cheaper paint i use my Ultra Lite 688. If i am using a higher quality paint that is most consistent in its size i usually use my Ultra Lite 684.

I have a .681 lapco tightstick which is amazing for any high grade paint since they run small. For practice paint i use a .684 UL, never need anything else. Underboring gives u great consistency and efficiency, just dont go to low for the paint ure shooting or else u get barrel breaks which piss me off like no other lol

FYI my practice paint it valken graffiti and turny is evil or redemption pro

underboring is better. you may be better off with a barrel that you can have different bored backs with. Maybe even carbon fiber . I have a dw barrel with freak inserts I use the .082 always shoots ropes

I always use a .689 or .688 even if it is an overbore

I like .680 I prefer Under boring. All the research tells us it's the best.

Since I wanted to ask but not create a thread, what's so special about the empire sniper barrel?

I see a couple of teams using them on their axe in competitions.

pretty sure they have a really long control bore. upwards of 6" or so.. that allows for more efficiency as well as a more accurate shot because teh ball is forced into a direct path for a longer period of time.

Is your field FPO ( Field Paint Only) or can you shoot what you want?

Get a barrel that fits the paint you have to/ want to shoot.

.689 is considered large bore. Most paint is closer to 684 or smaller.
Some guys run a .679 all the time.

These days .689 is like the Holland Tunnel. Paint has been gettin' smaller and smaller over the past couple years.

Field paint at the last tournament I played at was fallin' right through my .678 Eigenbarrel. The way paint has been sizin' out lately, I'm hoping Lurker makes some .674 barrels soon. I've barely used my .684 these past 6 months...

I use a furious, have a couple backs for different size paint. Has a pretty quite sound signature and the accuracy is great.

I have a sniper in sig. The barrel back is about 8-9 inches long so it's a pretty accurate barrel.

Go with a carbon fiber barrel with inserts. They are rifled so they get a spin on the ball and it makes your shot longer and more accurate. So go with sly or something like that. My preference would be a dye boom stick or the sly diesel barrel, comes with 2 backs and a case

So much information here is bad. I'd recommend going to the barrel form and hear what the test tell us from engineers and such. Tech that effects and real bullets from a real gun do not have the same impact on a paintball...

Instead of listening to the so called scientists that perform these experiments in controlled settings, go with the advice of the people that actually use them on a weekly basis in real paintball conditions. Underboring is the way to go with an Axe. Our paint, Empire Custom Blend (basically formula 13) and Marbs measure out to .682 - .684. I use a Freak with the .682 almost exclusively and shoots ball on ball 90% of the time, if it's hot or the humidity is high, I go up to the .684 insert.
