Which is better? Conservative governance or liberal?

Which is better? Conservative governance or liberal?

Which type of governing system is better and why? Which do you prefer?

How about compromise?

No, just kidding. Way too radical a concept.

So the commonly held misconceptions, thanks stupid media.

In an encounter with the egotistical conqueror Alexander the Great, after being asked if he wanted anything, Diogenes of Sinope (a remarkable thinker of classical Greece, one of the Cynics who were known for defying convention, deriding superstition, rejecting money and kings, being scornful of sophisms, and disdainful of Plato) replied, "Stand a little less between me and the sun."

let me ask this, the many of you that are "ok" with things like welfare, universal health care, and so on...why?

Why should someone be forced to help another aganst their own will?

It's not against your will, no one's keeping you here. If you look around the world, these things work out pretty when put into practice.

For the same reason you have to pay taxes for everything else.

because youre supposed to help people. like a poster above stated, you dont have to do ****, you just gotta live in a mud hut in the amazon.

everyone is helped somehow, whether it be getting checks from the government or making sure that apple doesnt tie your *** down in a basement somewhere and force you to build ipods for $1.50 an hour.

By your definition, definitely conservative. Too bad there are virtually no conservatives in office.

The goverment is there to provide basics like roads, power grids, and defense. They are not there to act like a saftey net for people too stupid or too lazy to get off their ***** and WORK.

That's a valid opinion, but not an indisputable fact. The government is there to do whatever the majority of people in the country want it to do, subject to constitutional limitations.

Do you really think that private donations could provide even half of the social safety net we currently have?

The purpose of those programs are to aid the poor temporarily. Not to make you feel good about your donation. Christ you people are dense

Social safety nets are not charity. They're a stopgap on failings inherent to our social, economic and cultural institutions.

If the "poor" did not plan right, did not look out for themselves, then why is that MY problem?

Look I have told my story many times here. I know what its like to go hungry, I know what its like to sleep under a bush on a city street. I still did not ask for ANY help, I made it up on my own. I grabed my own bootstraps and pulled myself upright, then dug my heals in and worked my *** off. I am flat out sick of supporting lazy, good for nothing, worthless people who wont TRY.
