I've had a few credit cards for a few years and I have pretty good credit because of it. I have never made a late payment though.

This is how I did it and I owed like 9-10k after trading my truck in and my down payment. My payments are 175 or something like that for 5 years but I got a good interest rate since it's technically in my father's name as I wasn't 18 when we bought it. I pay 225 every month as extra and I only make about 500-600 a month. Before I had a couple thousand in the bank as insurance in case I needed it to make other payments.

That was May of 2011 and I now owe less than 6. At this rate I'll have it paid off way before it's due. It's really all about how you manage your money, not about how much you have/make. You can make 1000 a month but if you don't know what you're doing VVVV (that guy) then you could still screw up.

I live at home and have zero expenses. 300-400 a week and I could have the car paid off before I'm done with my 4th semester no problem. If I had more expenses it wouldn't be an issue in the first place. But since I have the luxury, I'd like to go ahead and get me a car with less issues and build some credit while I'm at it.

3-400 weekly is a lot different that monthly. You should be able to float that no problem.

Go talk to a few different banks. They'll probably want your last couple of months pay stubs to see that you have a good income. Being young, with no credit interest rates will be high.
