How the **** do I go about getting a loan? I mean, I could easily save and just pay cash, but that won't build credit and it would keep me in my car longer. My dad is convinced it can't happen but I know so many people making less money who get like brand new 20k cars. How does this happen? Online research keeps contradicting itself and I see so many people saying so many different things I don't know what the **** to believe.
I won't have much of a down payment, but would be fine with working up to getting one if I had to, which I feel I very well might have to.

get a credit card, use it for your normal expenses and pay it off without fail before the end of each month.
I've had a few credit cards for a few years and I have pretty good credit because of it. I have never made a late payment though.
and how do you expect to afford a 10-15k car on 400 a month? or do you mean 400 a week?

you don't need to spend 10 - 15k on a car if you're MAYBE making 400 bucks a month

I would also seek a longer term like 5 or 6 years with a lower payment since 400 isn't a whole lot.
This is how I did it and I owed like 9-10k after trading my truck in and my down payment. My payments are 175 or something like that for 5 years but I got a good interest rate since it's technically in my father's name as I wasn't 18 when we bought it. I pay 225 every month as extra and I only make about 500-600 a month. Before I had a couple thousand in the bank as insurance in case I needed it to make other payments.
That was May of 2011 and I now owe less than 6. At this rate I'll have it paid off way before it's due. It's really all about how you manage your money, not about how much you have/make. You can make 1000 a month but if you don't know what you're doing VVVV (that guy) then you could still screw up.
Don't listen to this guy.

I live at home and have zero expenses. 300-400 a week and I could have the car paid off before I'm done with my 4th semester no problem. If I had more expenses it wouldn't be an issue in the first place. But since I have the luxury, I'd like to go ahead and get me a car with less issues and build some credit while I'm at it.
Oh ****, I meant weekly. My bad.

Yeah, I know I can afford it I just don't know how to go about a loan. The internet gives **** advice and my dad is convinced it can't happen.

Then how do these people get brand new cars worth 15-25k on zero credit? I wouldn't mind having a somewhat high rate if it meant building credit.

3-400 weekly is a lot different that monthly. You should be able to float that no problem.

Go talk to a few different banks. They'll probably want your last couple of months pay stubs to see that you have a good income. Being young, with no credit interest rates will be high.

I've been debating getting a twitter, but I'm already sick of seeing everyone's updates via facebook so wtf is the point of another link to them?
