I'm not familiar with that exact model but there are a couple options.
1. If it uses a sata cable to connect the hard drive to the motherboard, these randomly failed ( a lot of laptops I believe are not using an actual cable though for sake of space management)
2. Your hard drive died, the don't like being tossed around especially while they are on
3. It's super unlikely but you can try booting into the bios and checking your boot sequence, and see if it detects your hard drive if it does, you might just be able to switch on/off ahci and/or make it the priority boot device. Either way would be good to see if your hdd is detected

so you booted into the bios manager and checked the device/hardware monitor and your hdd is not listed? if not it probably just died. call manufacturer and see if it's under warranty or they had any recalls on that model..

Remove hard drive, put in new hard drive, install Windows. That's all you got to do son.

you can do this as long as you get the appropriate drivers for your motherboard and a clean OS to install minus any software you have on the computer.

And if the damn DVD drive still works. Although USB booting isn't that much more difficult.

It's pretty hard for me to believe your hard drive just magically erased itself. You doubt you need a reformat. Especially if bios does not detect the presence if your hard drive.
You need a new hard drive. Your motherboard drivers, an operating system install disk, and the software that was installed if its important to you. Now you could try plugging that hdd into a desktop or something to further diagnose and determine if it is indeed the hard drive itself that is the problem. And no the motherboard or sata connection

I thought everyone in the Army was a writer?
But really, you need to be clearer in your questions. I wasn't really sure what you meant with your last one neckface.

Your hard drive is dead, sorry, it happens. What you need to do is go to tiger direct or newegg and find an online dealer that will ship without problems to FPO/AP address. I believe that both of those do, but many sellers on ebay do not. Choose the size you want, or maybe go with an SSD, they cost more but have no moving parts to damage. (do not go with an OCz agility however, fast, then many die for no reason). Should be no more then a 70 dollar fix.
And I will translate that if you did not understand.
