Chopping paint - I think I know why

Been chopping paint a few times every hopper on my Etek 3. Using an invert too halo. Bought the gun used and it only came with one detent installed.
Turned the speed setting on my invert halo down, and it chopped less but still chopped once in a while.

Will having a missing detent cause the gun to chop? I figure it might allow the ball in the chamber to move forward too much, and the next ball would enter too far down the feed neck, causing a break.

Ordered some new detents, hoping it solves the problem.

Yes, a missing detent will almost ALWAYS lead to rampant chopping.

Ive been chopping paint and my gun is 3 weeks old.. My detents are fine. What paint are you shooting? I was shooting brittle paint plus its winter.
Hope that detent works out for you..
If not you can try turning down the tension on your loader, replacing your batteries in your gun, and turning down your ROF (if your over 12 bps).

Also Mason74 told me to... "Increase dwell, increase ball detection time. I have these set at 9.5 and 5, respectively. Not chopping or breaking paint.
And I also hv the cure 4."
Hope this helps!

9.5 dwell is pretty low... I'd bump it up to 14ms for winter play and 11ms for summer play.

9.5 isn't low. 14 is very high. A stock etek 3 can run at 8ms no problem. Most settings that people use for smoothness don't go above 11ms. Stay between 8-11 for best results.

Aresfiend is probably referring to an etek 1. Those are 13ms stock, and can go a little lower or higher depending on upgrades and pressure settings.

Will do, but maybe it would help to just not speak nonsenses?...

Yes, I was. I haven't touched an Etek3 since August but I've had to fiddle with a few Etek1s since then.

Well... Trying to say I'm speaking nonsense because I mixed up the dwell of the Etek with the Etek 3 and saying that I need to be informed is kind of harsh for any situation...
