Yeah the issue that we had with the 9mm and the 5.56 NATO is that there was no reat stopping power. You could shoot a guy 6+ times center mass and they are still running around like they had not been hit at all.

I'm hoping you're using the term "family member" lightly. I demand a DNA match!

BTW, if you ever see Tagg in person, ask about this. Perhaps the most interesting story I've ever heard in my entire life.

9mm, maybe. 50 cent don't walk with a limp.

Not sure about getting shot 6 times in the chest with a 5.56 and running around like nothing happened. Maybe with a carbine length barrel at over 150yds isn't the most devastating weapon. But I've shot 1/2" holes through 1" thick mild steel and 5" holes out the back of doubled up 6x6 beams with 55gr .223 wal mart ammo, I imagine I'd be having a very bad day if I got hit by one.

Well its not that they dont have a bad day, getting hit like that will kill you. However taking 1-2 7.62/.308's from a M14 (correct me if Im wrong on the caliber, but I am pretty sure its a .308 or 7.62) is by far worse. Im not saying that they are running around for hours or days but long enough to still help in a gun fight. the 5.56 just doesnt have the same stopping power that others have. I'm sure mindset would agree, that 7.62 is the choice for the most part.

What I was getting at is that I would perfer a larger round.

Everyone I know who uses the service rifles thinks about like this:

5.56 = a VW bug
7.62 = a 18 wheeler

When the **** hits the fan you want to hit someone with the 18 wheeler vice the VW. You want to shoot one or twice and not have to worry about them doing anything else. 9.9 times out of 10 you are not gonna get up after being hit by a big rig. The same cannot be said about the VW. This might be a bad example but you get the picture.

Dont get me wrong though, 5.56 is still a powerfull round and I do love me some M4s I would just perfer the larger 7.62 if I had to shoot things that shot back.

I do agree what Vegard said about 7.62mm. I love shooting 7.62 weapons. I seen what a 7.62mm(308.) round can do to the human body it's not pretty. I also seen what 5.56 can do too not a very damaging round. Oh and Scatlm the M9 Barretta sucks. They only reason we still carry it is because of a contract and to give military officials peace of mind when it comes to safety features. Actually too many safety features if you ask me. Now what I have for home defense is a Glock 22 40. LE edition. Best bang for your buck and will work through any conditions thrown at it. The rounds I have are hollow points w/ penetrators. I also have a 38. Special with hollow points. I also have kids but I teach them to never touch it and I also have it out of reach and in a safe that I only know the code to. I still want to get a M14 and a Remington 700 tactical. I also am in the mood for a Mauser and M1 Garand. If anyone has any questions on real weapons just ask me I deal with a lot of civilian LE back home and I'm still in the military.

Thanks Mindset I knew I wasnt the only other US Mil guy in here. V- I know you are Mil too.

The 7.62NATO is devastating to a person, you dont get up from that. I dont mind the M9 I thought it was fun to shoot but I would not want to use it to stop someone. There is no stopping power there at all.

As for my gun, I finally got sold on the Springfield Mil-Spec 1911.

Give us a full review on it, G. I was looking at one of those too. I still need to purchase a hand gun, but someone here keeps taking all my money.

Lol, I gotta get my wife the wine fridge first should be this coming week or so then I can have the gun.

Plus I get to wait a week for the background check. I just found out that when I got my security clearence (05 and reup in 07 and 09) causes a flag in the system for the gun buyers... Not too happy about that but what can you do.

One of the guys at work put it like this:

Us prior mil guys get to wait a week, but the drug dealer that has a clean record and mental health issues working at Burger King can walk in and out with a gun in 30 mins...

But yeah I will let you all know how I like it.

The SKS is a beast. My stepdad had one a while ago like 15 yrs or so.

Looks like they have already tried to sneak in some guns that dont belong in the rare BST thread already. 05 Cyborg? really I wouldnt think that or the Dye Ultralight Cocker is rare by any means.

Yea, it's gonna take some heavy policing for it start flowing correctly, though I'm not sure if the majority of the PbN user base quite understands the premise yet. But, I'm not gonna go in there and complain. At least we have it now.

That section will only be useful if you have a wad of cash standing by for the one marker you really want to shellout for, other than that we'll still have to lurk smaller forums, ebay and craigslist.

Nice. I cant believe how much they've gone up in price, though.. and it seems to rise continually.

@ Mind ---Get the Mauser. Its a beast. And a hell of a BR for the money.

As far as the M9... its intended for shot placement. And I don't want to start a shot placement vs. muzzle energy debate...to each their own, but the M9 in the hands of an effective operator and with hollow points + p ...is an excellent weapon.

I had a G22, till I started hand-loading 10mm --- .40 is now moot.
