Took the last 5 days to help my old man install his new entertainment center. My mom on the other hand was just waiting for us to finish to plop the little angels and wreath on top. Lol

A friend of mine has been saving one for me, should I ever get a windows based computer.
I'm not sure if that'll ever happen.

After a month or 2 with a windows 8 vm, I am now running windows 8 on my work machine. So far no big issues.

Ok, a new pistol has entered my debate. Any of you guys have any experience with the Springfield Armory 1911 Mil-Spec? I've never shot a 1911, but I really like the way they feel in the hand. I didnt' think a 1911 was in my budget, but it looks like these can be had for sub $700.
Only downfalls I see is that it's a full size pistol, so easy CC is out, and it's also a .45 ACP, so it's more expensive to shoot.

The fit and finish of those are exceptional, there was no slop at all between parts; .....and they look manly as hell.
The only thing I 'upgraded' in mine was the main spring. You might keep a lookout for some that pop up for sub $500 though. I've seen them before.

That's encouraging. I think I'm gonna check it out. Range a town over has one on their rental list. I'll check one out this weekend.

Look into Kimber...they make some of the best 1911's.. they got a whole line of 'em from compact to full-size 1911's, be prepare though..they are. not. cheap. nor are any 1911s really.
If you're thinking of climbing into the $700+ range, another great CC weapon you should look into is the Sig P220 (.22LR)
1911 require a bit more maintenance and field stripping them is a couple more steps from a Glock. Unless you really fell in love with the .45 ACP cartridge, I'd say that it's not the ideal first weapon.
Edit: Also, factor-into your budget ammo costs..
Cheers

A Kimber is kind of a dream at this point . When I was orignally looking at Glocks and XDs, my buddy who runs the shop were I will purchase let me take a look at the Kimber he carries and few he had in the case. They were super nice, and I loved the feel of them. But most of the ones he had had a buy in price of around $1200 if not more.
I have no idea about selling a gun after I purchase it. It's not nearly as easy as markers, where I can just post a thread and ship it off to Norway. So I want to get something I can kind of afford, but also will be happy with long term.

In .45 ACP, the XDM 4.5 is the best choice in your current price range, IMHO. Its an excellent weapon system. From accuracy and precision to reliablity. Its also very simple to maintain and strip down.
In the other hand, you can't go wrong with a Glock 9mm...and you can buy around 500 rounds with the price difference--just saying. Also, swing through pawn shops...sometimes you find great deals. A buddy of mine picked up a 19 for $350. And it was mint with night sights.
