Do you have a backup marker?
So I sold my Spyder Sonix that was my backup marker. I found that I enjoyed playing paintball with my primary electric marker that I never really played my Spyder anymore.
Does anyone have a backup marker?
Do you ever really play it?
I found that since I hd mostly everything that I need to fix my mini, and with backups of everything (hopper, tank, barrel) I was set to play this marker. If it's truly wet out and miserable, I don't play. So why keep a backup marker?

I have a mech for my backup but it serves its purpose if my electro goes down.

To my understanding the point of a backup marker is to have a marker to use in case of an unexpected problem with the primary that can't be fixed immediately. Having one for that reason is highly important to a serious player.
Sometimes I lend out my backup to people at the field who have more than enough experience and skill to still be stuck using a rental or maybe had a problem with their primary and didn't have a backup.. as long as said person displays maturity and responsibility.

I'm just getting back into paintball but in general it's always nice to have an extra gun incase your primary one breaks down and can't be fixed immediatly. Also I (& many others) enjoy shooting different markers so having the ability to change it and use something different is always a pleasure.

I have an Etek 3 as my primary and an Etek 1 as my backup...It's nice to have in case you've got a buddy with you who doesn't have a marker, or if yours goes down.

Sorry Mikey, you only have one gun, so you aren't serious.
Always keep an ego in my bag as a backup.

Of course, You never know when your gun is going to crap out or decides to have a day off. My back up got used a lot this season. Not by me, but my teammates seemed to always have a problem with theirs.

You won't ever need a back up if you take good care of your primary

True that. Remeber, switching the battery solves half the problems.

I learned this from my dad: you can't use it if you don't have it - if you only have one of something, that's fine, but two is better (just in case). I have back-up of everything - guns, masks, packs, hoppers, squeegees, barrel socks, etc, etc.

I agree, if you can afford to have a backup do it unless you have other areas that need upgrades such as a hopper or tank ect...backups are good cuz **** happens

From a tournament standpoint, I currently own one tournament marker, I have other markers but they are not tourney guns. I SHOULD have a backup, but for financial reasons I haven't been able to grab one yet.
If you are a tournament player, it's wise to have a backup gun. Even if it's something simple/lowerend, older, or whatever. Yes, I can fix the gun I have now if it breaks, but fixing things takes time. Diagnosing leaks, changing o-rings, adjusting regulators, chronoing etc. etc. all takes time. Guess what you rarely have very much of at a tournament? Time! It's much much more convenient to pick up a different gun, plug in the air, add paint, turn on and continue playing.
You also have to remember that at an event the majority of the major equipment failures you see are going to happen pretty much right before a game. Do those players ask the refs for time to tech their gun? Heck no! They send a team mate running to their pit for a different gun.
Should you have one? Yes, you should. At some point, you will want it, or worse, need it. Is it something that you should make a high priority? For entry and lower level tournaments, you can usually get away without one. If you've already got everything else you need, and you have a bit of extra cash, certainly considering picking something up. It doesn't have to be super expensive, or new, it just has to be something that you can get working, and be sure that it's going to work if you're primary craps out on you.

Totally wrong a magnet fell off my daughter's trigger on her mini. No return force= no more working marker. The back up marker in my gear bag saved her outing for the day. Trying to fix at the field (who carries a spare magnet for a trigger), a long drive home to get another marker, or worse yet getting rental gear for the day all were bad options. I typically have at least 1 backup marker for our group of 3 or 4.

havent had this exact thing happen, but i agree completely. it is so much easier to have another marker ready to go than have to tech a marker and either make everyone else wait, or sit out indefinitely.
