Freak barrel backs, and which barrel

I'm wondering if the Freak barrel backs make any difference. I've seen 3 or 4 different designs (older ones and newer ones).
I'm assuming that ultimately, the ball never actually comes in contact with the bare-back, it just travels through the insert. If that is correct, then the back design makes no difference, correct?

Also, of the following barrels, which would you guys shoot with:
-Stiffi (own)
-Dye UL (own 2 of them)
-Shaft 2 (own)
-Freak Barrel w/ AA Tip (considering)

the freak barrel backs just look different and may be different lengths. The paintball never actually touches the back, it travels through the insert and then the front. I would definitely suggest a freak barrel. I love mine

I use a 10 inch freak barrel ( with back) I also early use a 14 inch barrel. I personally think that the original freaks are better. I have heard great things about the broomstick but I can not think of paying 150 more for not of tun improvement

I am selling my freak barrel to bore out a dye UL to fit freak inserts. Light, lots more quiet than a freak, and looks better IMO! The inserts however are a god-send for bore matching the paint, completely worth it if you get the stainless steel as they will not crush if stepped on and are true to the bore.

I heard of that some time ago. I may actually end up doing that.
