It's also much harder to judge sound signature from behind the gun. What it sounds like shooting it is nothing like what it sounds like in front of the gun.

I could care less about the sound. I rather like the sound of the etha in fact. Main question for me is does it make the etha smoother/reduce barrel rise? If so I'll definitely be picking one up.

Maybe I wasn't clear, but I'm not asking for the manufacturer's claims. I'm curious to hear a solid consensus from people who have tested the bolt out considering that "smoothness" can be subjective.

Jamin, I cannot vouch for the Techt Bolt on the Etha, as I dont own it. However, I have used their bolt on an SP1, and and an A5, and It has made it shoot smoother for both of these markers. The difference was HUGE on the SP1. I did see efficiency tests, and consistency tests done with this bolt, and it appears that it is an improvement, in both of those aspects.

Thanks Killa. Looking around the web I'm only hearing good things about the Etha bolt. Looks to be the best upgrade available for the Etha considering it's the only thing that makes a difference performance wise.

For a company like Eclipse that has a lot of experience, and therefore, reason in their engineering designs an aftermarket part like this trades benefits in some areas for drawbacks in others.

Makes sense, but what would the drawbacks be? Harsher on paint possibly? What else?

Well for one thing the movement of the bolt will be much more violent, so yes, it will be a lot harder on loading paint. I'm not going to pretend I know everything about how this part functions, but from previous experience, a lighter dynamic part usually also leads to decrease in consistency.

Took me while to find but here is what Jack had to say on why PE went with the bolt and spring package that they did.

We also chose not to use an aluminium bolt due to potential wear issues with the bolt spring, the breech and the bolt guide.

Maybe with poppets, but they've never made this style marker before. Look at the geo, the original release was openly viewed as a poor performing spoolie. And the Etha....well, they had to release a new spring-less bolt within 6 months of its debut because of a substantial failure rate.

I'm not knocking PE. They make great markers and have awesome customer service, but there's a reason an aftermarket exists. Sometimes companies make mistakes or simply don't maximize a certain component.

Everything I've read and videos I've seen so far show that there is an increase in velocity when dropping the kit straight in with no oher changes. Since you would have to drop the pressure to reduce FPS, wouldn't that also slow the bolt down and bring things back into balance?

From what I could tell in the animations, air pressure sends the bolt forward to dump the chamber. So, wouldn't a drop in pressure slow the bolt back down?

It still would be substantially quicker than the stock bolt. 50% lighter and 50% faster requires a proportional drop in pressure. In addition, the techt spring doesn't have as much tension.

Yes, there is a reason why aftermarket parts exist. Because many people in this sport want to throw money at upgrades just for the sake of blowing cash, not necessarily because it may or may not do something a manufacture said it would (or even if it's an appropriate choice for the part it replaces). If you want to compare PE aftermarket vs factory parts in specific, look at the titanium rams for the ego...

In addition, I don't ever recall there being an outstanding problem with PE markers that was not fixed, with no cost to the user, via drop-in replacements.

Just put one in my sons Etha.I have to say out of all the gun bolts I have purchased I have NEVER seen such a dramatic improvement. Marker was chrono'd to 280 and was 314+/-2 with no adjustment. Re chrono'd to 280 and sound and kick are significantly reduced. It is like a totally different marker. ALL and I mean ALL of the ping feeling is gone. If you are going to put a single dime into your Etha....... This is it. Good job TechT.

Has anyone had one in their marker for a while? I'm curious to see how the aluminum wears with their spring.

I don't think there's a problem with the aluminum wearing out with the spring. I think the bigger issue is the bolt wearing out the Etha Bolt Can Stem. I think I might have had a lemon though. TechT is supposed to send me a replacement so we'll find out soon enough...
