I was at my local field today and talking to one of the pros at the pro shop. I asked him about one of the guns that looked like a AK-47. he said that I shouldn't be interested in it because someone had it assembled in there car and was pulled over by a cop and shot because the cop thought it was real.

has anyone heard of anything like this?

police officers aren't allowed to shoot people if they see a gun in their car. That guy would have had to have been pointing it at the officer. (if it's a true story)

Yeh me and my friends were pulled over heading to D-Day in Oklahoma. We all had BT-Ironhorse's which the officer thought was real and we explained to him and showed him that they were paintball guns. To be safe the officer called for backup and the officers did a full search of our truck.

Its only legal to have a gun in your car if its in a gun case. If your iron horse was sitting out in the open and not in a case an officer has every right to pull you over.

I would keep it in a case, but I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't shoot you as long as you complied with their commands, had your hands up, and didn't reach for the marker. But to be on the safe side, keep it out of view.

it would not surprise me if this were a true story.

i know a tech for a field around me was leaving the fields store with a gun to bring home and work on and someone called the cops and the cops felony stopped him and beat the **** outta him and it took about 45 minutes before the cops realized that it was just a paintball gun in the car and not a real gun like the caller had said.

so yea the cops overreact when they see or hear that there is a gun in the car they are stoping even if it is a fake i don't blame them in the slighest for reacting the way they did except beating the **** outta the tech cause it is there lives we are talking about here (and i hate cops to so don't flame me i'm just saying in this case i understand everything except beating the tech)

So the simplest solution is just to put the gun into a case and under a seat or in the trunk where the cops cannot see it and if they want to search your vehicle make sure you tell them it is there and what it is and you should be fine.

That's why I love SD, open carry is allowed. As long as the firearm is visible, your fine. Technically you could walk downtown carrying a gun, but it's not recommended.

I've been pulled over with my shotgun in the seat beside me. The cop didn't care. He just gave me a warning for speeding and sent me on my way.

Some of that is due to criminals putting orange strips on the ends of the guns so that cops think that it's a airsoft gun. Cops aren't into paintball so they don't know that it's a paintball gun. They just don't take any fing chances.

Then you obviously don't know anything about the law or police procedure.

And that story you provided sounds like you either left something out or the entire thing is a fabrication. The police would not have viciously beat up your friend just because he had a gun in the car, whether it was real or not.

paintball guns are illegal in NYC...cannot be carried at all. The police have more important things to worry about but it can be confiscated if need be. I've seen cops over react over nothing.

I've been thrown up against walls face first n searched because i "looked" like someone they were looking for. I've seen people rushed by 4 or 5 cops just because they were just talking wrecklessly (flirting with threats but never crossed the line).

I do believe someone being roughed up unfairly, but i don't know about viciously beat up, cops aren't THAT dumb...ok well MOST aren't that dumb

Honestly no offense to any woods players but a lot of the new tippmann, BT guns are way to realistic. They look really cool. But its understandable for police to find one and be suspicious.

You basically have to get approval from the Governator himself to get a carry permit.

I would say if he was shot without it in his hands or within reach, then it is false. Cops usually don't just blast people.....usually.
