College Project - Please Read!
I'm here to ask players what they think would make the ultimate paintball field/facility and tournaments. I am doing a College project for a business class, and I decided to design a paintball facility and make a mock business, including what I would do, like hosting tournaments. Money is no option (since it isn't real money), so throw out anything.
If you were to play anywhere, what would draw you to play in a tournament, besides prizes of course?
What are the things the tournaments you play in are missing?
As a player, what complaints do you have about tournaments or how they operate?
Please list anything relevant to what information I am trying to obtain

Well, if cost isn't a factor:
Indoors. A turf equal to indoor football or baseball would be ideal. Multiple fields too.
Scoreboards. Penalties could be listed on it as well (something simple like Major:Wiping and with penalty time left).
Something that could list who is playing who and on what field. Think train station:
Team A vs Team B 10:00 Field 1
Team C vs Team D 10:00 Field 2
Team E vs Team F 10:30 Field 1
TEam G vs Team H 10:30 Field 2
Grandstands with glass or lexan or something easy to see through/scratch resistant/easy to clean. Would be much better to watch through than netting. Just one side would have to have this, and you would only need it 10 or 15 feet up, you could have netting the rest of the way.

^Like he said, at least one indoor airball field. Well stocked concession stands and lobbies, lights on the fields, basic nescessities like that.

Keep in mind that with the more you have, the higher the upkeep goes. Try to look at ways where initial investment may be high, but upkeep is low.
LED lighting. Solar panels.
Also keep in mind though, the more people you bring in, the more people you have to staff.

I would like pro quality turf with excellent drainage so the paint doesnt make it sloppy, cheerleaders for my team, locker rooms would be cool instead of a tent right next to another team, sick nasty bleachers, nice scoreboard especially like the ones that hang from center ice in arenas, actually ya the locker rooms would be amazing, fog machines, and thats all at the moment

Eh, I would do:
1st place prizes = 2x what they paid
2nd place= what they paid
3rd place = 1/2 what they paid
In order to do this though, you have to have enough teams to offset the costs.
In order to draw more teams, I would do things such as having tournament series. Random tourneys mean less than a series of tournaments. For the teams that are doing well, they are likely to continue coming, for teams that are not, they have the chance to redeem themselves with more tournaments.
There is another problem that goes with this, you have to make sure that a D4 or D3 level team doesn't play against D5 or beginner teams. APPA numbers help with this, but there are also players who have a lot of skill, but no APPA number so they can technically enter as D5.
To help with prizes though, talk to manufacturers to get discounts on products. They might give you a discount or even free product to advertise their product with the tournament.

Want to play - nothing like going to a field where it's a half hour between games.
Want competition - hate beating on beginners and not improving.
Close to field - don't like walking a lot for refills, but willing to do it for local field (best in area).
Safety - want refs to insist on it, don't want to accidentally shoot out someone's eye or anything.
Variety - like speedball, woods, mix.
Refs - want them to spot hits and pay attention, involving some hustle sometimes.
Paint - like fresh paint that's stored well. Hate having a blender because of bad paint or that shoots out in all directions (yes, I under-bore slightly).
Tourneys - occasional tourneys are good.
Pump - occasional pump-only days are good.

I may be rehashing, but here is my list:
Multiple indoor and outdoor speedball and X ball Fields.
2-3 decent woodsball or scenario fields.
Well taught and managed staff. This includes gun techs, pro shop attendents, and refs.
Well built chrono range with public tech equipment for the field malfunction.
Well maintained rental guns (The new BT or Tippmann for example.)
Fill station in a central location to all fields (May need multiple.)
Events such a tournaments, large scale scenario matches, pump only day, and stump the pros (Pro team visit to play against and with groups of locals and homegrown players)
Good shelter for indoor and out.
Setting area for players to rest and chat about odds and ends.
Selection of low to pro grade paint for sale, (No screw the walk on with high cost medium grade only.)
PLUMBING!

If you were to play anywhere, what would draw you to play in a tournament, besides prizes of course?
Location, cheap entry and paint.
What are the things the tournaments you play in are missing?
Cheap entry fees with byop.
As a player, what complaints do you have about tournaments or how they operate?
Some are run too fast, while others are way too slow. Also, some leagues like to be cheap and not really hire a full time reffing staff and just have different teams ref different events.
Please list anything relevant to what information I am trying to obtain

I always thought that if you could figure out a way to spray down the turf and bunkers, and have the water drain out of the field (think grates as floors, with turf over it) it would be a much cleaner and safer field.

If we are talking a tournament circut i would first have to say. Have educated, and non biased refs. And provide them with an incentive to be attenitive and unpartial. To many times i have seen bad reffing a comon standard in small tournament circits. I understand its not very cost effective but having well educated and hard working refs must be a standard. encourage customer based reviews on the refs and listen to them. Of course take into consideration that people will ***** about calls weather they are right or wrong.
Do not allow refs, to ref tournaments if they have any known affiliation to any of the teams playing.

Would the view get obstructed a little bit if your sitting at the end. Or will the stands be raised, or will seats only be available on the side of the field
