For tourney ball you will want something reliable. There are lots of choices that will work.

While it is not impossible to play a tourney with a SC gun it will be more difficult. AT is not always needed but in today's tourney scene it will sure help.

For a tourney I would avoid cheap plastic guns. But after that you can use any gun that you are comfortable and proficient with.

If you do not care about how much it will cost, a great pump for a tourney would be any CCM marker. I would recommend using one of there full body markers instead of a half block style marker. I just think that a full body marker would be a bit more reliable. But it will not make much of a difference if you use a half block style marker. It is mostly personal preference. One of the most important things is a good paint to barrel match.

If you do not plan on dropping around $500 on a CCM marker than you could get any autococker with a CCM pump kit, this would function exactly the same. The only cocker i would not recommend for a tourney would be the trilogy. And you do not have to use a CCM pump kit. With a bit of effort you could easily get almost any pump kit just as smooth as a CCM kit. Using an auto trigger would help but is not that important. If you do want to get an auto trigger, make sure that the cocking arm is ready and drilled for it. I personally think that any single finger frame will work fine. Once again I would recommend full body, but a half block cocker would be fine also. You could probably find a nice set up for under $300.

Hope this helped. If you want to know more about stock class or if you have any more questions about cockers, let us know and we will try and help.

PROS

a bit lighter(not that much)

some people like the look a bit better

can add value to a marker because it is custom

you do not need a back block

CONS

there is a slot that can allow dirt and paint into the marker(this is not that big of a deal)

if the job was not done well, the sled may rub against the marker body and cause the pump stroke to be not as smooth as it could be.(you will not have this problem with CCM markers. and this does not usually happen vary much so it is nothing to worry to much about)

If the half block is done and it is not re annoed, there will be plain aluminum seen.

So basically it just comes down to what you like more.

Pretty much. It's how you shoot, not what you shoot.

Most will dispute that.

Falls back to the question of where you are based. I know there are a load of pumpers down here in SoCal...

Stay away from the Bob Long pump. A $500 gun should not fart. Same with the Azodins.

Trilogy's just need alot of work done to make them have the same smoothness as your average tourney pump and trilogy pump kits are harder to find then a normal 2k+ pump kit.

- any cocker with a pump kit is a great introduction gun to pump ( despite what I said above, trilogy's are fantastic starter pumps and I still play with mine alot)
-phantoms are also very good platform for beginning

-- if you do buy a pump cocker and don't like it, just slap some pneumatics on it and you or yourself a decent semi

The worst pumps are the cheap plastic ones that you get from wal-mart. I bought one once because I had a gift card I wasn't ever going to use and it was a joke (which is what I expected anyway). As for good tourney pumps, I'd go with the empire sniper. They shoot great and aren't terribly expensive.

I am using a Phantom as a rec gun, I am not a tourny player. But this was my second time out and on a hyper pipe field with it and I was very happy with it. It is so light, I normally use a 98c in my sig, so just about everything is lighter. I did enjoy taking aim and getting an out on a guys foot.

I got my start on a brass eagle blade. Sweet plastic setup haha but avoid those since often they don't have velocity adjustment.

Stay away from any plastic brass eagle pumps.

If you something better quality but unknown go for arrow precision sterling. You can grab those for under $150 and even under $100 because of the lack of demand. Smooth pump, good balance, and shoots straight and good efficiency.

Next step up is phantom and cocker platforms. I don't like the cocker platform for pumps so I suggest trying before buying.

High end are CCMs, some phantoms, and Carters.

By tourney I'm assuming you're talking airball.

I'd stay away from anything nelson based. With a full-size hopper and tank I find the balance to be very odd.

I'd just spring for a CCM or an empire sniper.
