I don't care how you try to defend it, I'm not paying you 10 cents every time I pull the trigger. Its robbery.

40 max. I don't value my paint very much. Sure, $70 paint shoots infinitely better than the Wal-Mart paint you get for half the price, but much above $40 and you're paying a lot extra. I use the Valken Red Box typically, it's nice and straight-shooting, and I don't have to pay $.10 a shot...

I can justify paying that much because it guarantees that I get to play a game of paintball that I find fun rather than have to worry about being overshot and bonus balled. Not everyone wants to play in a high rate of fire environment. Not because I suck (I do, but that is besides the point) but because I just don't find it fun.

I can pay that price because at the end of the day, my paint cost averages out to about $20-25 per day. How much do you pay per day of paintball on paint?

I will pay that price because I like to see the fields I enjoy stay in business and continue to provide me with the service that I like. A low Rate of Fire field.

As to shortbuscrew's comment. For a long time Canada has been paying either as much or, more often, MORE than what the US paid for pretty much anything (paintball gear, books, booze, cheese...) and our dollar was worth much less than the US dollar. I don't think the prices were as high as SBC is claiming, but they were certainly a fair bit higher than US prices. Example, pick up a book near you, what is the Canadian price listed on the back? (do they even list the Canadian price?) I bet it is a few dollars higher than the US price...and the Canadian dollar right now is worth almost a penny or two MORE than the US dollar...

Paint is very often $100+ at a majority of the fields here in Canada and I have played in BC, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and in the US as well.

Tempted. Yes there are fields that will charge less. But did you take any time to see how many fields charge over $100 per case? More often you will find the cheap fields near the Larger cities...of which Canada only has a handful. They can offer cheap prices because they have a larger pool of potential customers to pull from. Field near smaller cites are forced to charge more just to make enough to cover their field costs.

Ottawa Fields.

Ottawa Xtreme paintball My home field $120 a case
Marked Paintball one of the cheaper fields $106 a case
Commando Paintball $150 a case
Tactik Paintball $140 a case. Awesome field
Carnage Paintball $100 a case...and no field.
Karters Korners $120 a case.
Hopperz Not really sure, its not really listed...but the scenario they have listed for this weekend has a price of $6/100 = $120 a case for gun owners...and $8/100 for rentals?
Paintball Paradise The cheapest in town...if 2h drive is still in town... $80 a case

That is all the legit fields I know of in Ottawa. A city of less than a million...

I average one bag per day(twice as much as you) and paint is $50 per case. This means $12.50 for 500 rounds(half as much as you pay). Twice the rounds, half the price, and we are still a low volume field comparatively speaking.

Our field is primarily a low ROF field. But, do you know what happens when we get people who like to shoot fast? This might be a bit of a stretch for you guys to understand, but we split games up evenly. And since we have 4 fields, it means both types of customers get to enjoy their games at the same time. Woooooow. Brilliant, huh?

They charge that much because there are idiots that pay that much. If people stopped buying, they would lower the price. Whats the point, though, when you can rape people and they come back again?

Good for you. If that works for you then your ahead. If your field manages to maintain a low rate of fire at those prices then congrats, you have an anomaly of a field.

We do the same thing based on skill levels as well as by private groups. Friends who show up together play together. The pump guys play their own game and the speedball guys play theirs. Your idea is not new or brilliant.

I sincerely hope that was sarcasm. If it wasn't I apologize. I had no idea you were 6.

So Horizon says he charges that much because it promotes low volume. Well, why doesn't he charge the correct amount and just split up the groups? Makes a heck of a lot more sense, don't you think?

Again, your notion of the "correct" amount is subjective to what you believe.

If the field is intentionally trying to promote a low rate of fire for the ENTIRE field in order to create a specific paintball environment and experience then what good is splitting up groups? In a low rate of fire environment no one has to worry about getting overshot, bonus balled, or generally beat up on. Everyone can have fun together. The gear owners often are shooting pump and the renters have the firepower advantage but it all evens out.

If people want to shoot more they can go to the field down the road. That effectively IS splitting up the groups.

Why should the field fight to compete on ALL levels when they have successfully created a specialized niche in an already paintball saturated market?

My statement was not that difficult to understand. Gear owners (pump or speedball or milsim) play with in their own groups. Private parties (usually renters) play with them selves...all groups with different skill levels.

We do charge the "correct amount" and we also split up groups when possible.

As paintball is gaining popularity, as it is here, it is becoming more and more difficult to split up groups. Almost every group we get these days are a combination of gear owners and renters, of varying skill levels. They come to the field wanting to play together with their friends. Of course even if we don't split up groups, we are constantly adjusting the teams so they are as even as possible. All this is common sense of course.

I'm pretty lucky in BC to have only 80 a case, and thats the lowest anywhere in BC for FPO. But some fields is up to 200 in vancouver. Get your tiny heads wrapped around that, in canada, it costs more than you can imagine, learn to live with that.
Hey buddy, take a look at my location. I get case & entry and free air for $50 in the summer and $80 in the winter. You're just playing at the wrong fields and doing mental gymnastics to justify it to yourself.

I buy a case every time I go, so I can support the field. I usually end up shooting around 3 bags a day, and I give the rest away to renters or little kids with their own gear. Y'know, the whole "help the newbs" thing.

You know, if you wish to converse with people...in any language, really...it helps if you actually know what words mean.

You might want to look up these, you're using them incorrectly.

I'm curious as to how old Tempted is, you sure have spent a lot of time determining what people in Canada should charge for a case of paint... If you're over 25 man, that's pretty sad.

Why? Because I think it is pathetic that a grown man has that much time to try and determine what someone should charge at THEIR business for a case of paint? Then devote the time into breaking it all down for him? I believe they have a name for professionals that do that in the real world, such as a financial planner. I bet people are banging down his door for his solid business advice. Someone should take him to the bank, with his knowledge we could get a loan for a field.

Maybe he should put as much time and devotion into starting his own field, then he can scream," but i charged fair rates." all the way to the bank as they close the doors on him.

I mean seriously, you guys are beating a dead horse...over...over... over... over... you get the point? The guy is not changing his prices due to a few people on the internet.

His business model is obviously working and like I said before, a business cannot make it just off new players only. Eventually he would run out, so he must be doing something right.

Oh, and I wouldn't call you a troll. I'd call you a nutswinger. Everyone knows apple fanboi's are the worst, which I didn't think I'd find someone closer to a nut. I must say, you take the cake, you dangle closer to empire and lurkers nut more than anyone I've seen over anything.

No, absolutely not. I agree with you, his paint prices are stupid high. But as a consumer, I have the right to choose. I choose to never step foot on his field. I voiced my opinion and left it at that. The only thing I have given him credit on is his ability stay civil and the fact he has openly tried to express to you how his business model works. You can do the same, as in choose what field you go to and don't have to patronize his, you know that right? YES, you know that because I'd be more than willing to bet that you're never even going to drive by his field let alone go to it.

You dont have to follow him around and beat the dead horse... over... over... over... do you get the point now?

Do you honestly think that he is going to listen to a few people on the internet? When obviously his business model is working, why would he? It is his business afterall, did I miss the part where you became a partner? I must of, because all I remember is you're some airsmith monkey at your local field where you **** around for paint and field fees by doing odds and ends....

Look as I've said before, the one and only reason I'm as avid as I am about this is because of his new player abuse. If he were just to admit that he screws people on prices it would have been left alone. But its the fact that he tries to argue about it helping players rather than hurting him. Its taking advantage of new players, the same players that this sport relies on, at an extreme level and the trying to justify it.

His business model is, in no uncertain terms, "We charge you much more because it makes it more fun and helps you". But the truth of it is he is removing players. If you ask someone who plays once a month why they don't play every weekend, the unanimous answer is "It costs too much".
