Gonna polish my axe got some questions

I figured I would start a project
Started sanding with 400 grit sandpaper but I can tell its going to take too long.

Apparently easy off or oven cleaner works for removing anodizing but if I soak the entire body of the gun in it, would I risk altering the inside of the gun? Like will my inner diameter change after being stripped?

I think there are allot of risks dipping your marker. While its slow, sanding makes more sense.

Sanding is the best option as Easy Off can and probably will pit the metal. Also Easy Off wont totally strip the anno, you will still have to sand it to remove some of the color anyway. Stick with the sand paper.

Yep... it's a hard job. Don't undertake it lightly... if I were you, I'd start with some of the smaller parts (feedneck, battery plate) and do those first to get a feel for it. That way, if you end up stopping, it will just look like an accented Axe.

I'm actually sanding the body the grip frame and the foregrip. It's coming along, kinda looks like one of those worn down shockers right now. I'm gonna keep at it and post pix when I'm done but if I decide to stop ill just send it in to get Anno'd somewhere

Would I be able to use a lower grain sandpaper? Something lower than 400 to start

You could use whatever grit you want on the outside, tolerances aren't going to matter too much.

If you are going to do this though, just know that raw aluminum is super soft. Gently tapping an allen key on the surface will leave marks, and hitting hard objects on the ground or gearbag can leave significant scratches.

Is there anyway to seal it or make it stronger? Or is the only solution clear anodizing?

I've almost finished the body, the slots towards the back are a real biotch. I'll post pix tonight. I'm sanding in this order, 220 320 400 800 1000 20000 then polishing

I've seen like 10 polished axes on the bst, do most of them do something different than just a good sanding and a good polish?

Stay at 400 and go higher. You don't want deep scratches that will be a ***** to get out. I started with 600 grit wet sand and took my time and used plenty of water.

The issue is that I'm doing the entire gun. The 220 and 320 grains are the only reason I've been able to do it. The higher grains have buffed out the lower grains easily too.

It will scratch too deep. But if your ok with causing yourself more work in the long run then go for it. Just keep that paper wet so it doesn't get too deep.
