G6r Cold weather tips

So I played an event that started aroun 45 degrees and got up to 55 with my g6r.

It wasn't the best day . I probally should have switched to my matrix to reduce chops . Some other guns had issues I switched with a teammates clone for some points which was a lot better . But a fair amount of guys had issues . I will post what I did and what I think I should do in the future .

I am trying to get a list of cold weather best practices to prevent this from happening to others because I know I lost a point or two due to not being able to shoot across the field due to one chop turning into a soup.

Here is what I did at the event : Dwell stock : hpr 75psi , hpr 190 , chronograph at 285-315 fps . Used a 689 one piece cp , 692 one piece , dye 692 two piece and a deadlywind .682 ( pair was rolling through the .682 ) I was trying to find out which barrell could shoot through a break . The answer was none .

I never had any breaks in my breach all were in the barrel . Ie I never had paint in the breach . I think I should have upped my dwell lowered my hpr and lowered my lpr . Not sure about the lpr though . I also used the stock bolt , I have a pillow bolt from my vice would that be better or worse ? Also what barrell recovers from chops the best ?

Furthermore what was odd is I would generally get a break about 3-6 pods into the game . And after that my gun shot like crap and would keep breaking paint . Where other people would randomly get a chop . One game I did go 7 pods in but got a chop and lost the point due to not being able to get he last runner due to shooting soup . I did notice my barrell was very cold and kind of frozen from shooting for 4 min straight .

My two other teammates also didn't use their victories because they were all over the place at the chrono . +|- 30 fps . They set their pressures at the start of the day too . I also was +|- 30 but I didn't want to use a spool for fear of leaking . ( I switched to the clone , everytime I lost a point due to my gun shooting ****ty , but went back to my g6r when me and the teammate using the clone were on the same line ). Other guns weren't as bad as our Bob longs at te chrono , Ie two people use ego 11s and they were +- 10-15 fps . The two people using dm12s also were chronoing better than us with the victories and g6r. We all were shooting the same paint and using the same barrel.

Any tips ? I'm trying to see if I can make our guns better in these scenarios so I don't have to pick up another angel for just the winter ( had great success when living in the northeast during the winter with the fly and SB not breaking paint )

with the inconsistencies in your FPS it would seem to me like you need to sweetspot your regs. I'm guessing your pressures are to high since your gun has broken in. don't mess with your dwell its fine where it is. I played yesterday in 50 degree weather an didn't have a single break in my G6r and was using a pillow bolt and sweet spotted regs.

first of all, your paint has 95% to do with breakage issues, especially in the cold

I would service the regs and put your pressures to 70/185 with the LP poppit or 75/200 with the stock poppit. Dwell 6

Hell, sweetspot your regs to shoot 275 especially with brittle paint.

Is it possible condensation was building up in the barrel and causing the breaks

What was the relative humidity and dew point?

Paint was rolling through your.682?

There's your problem. Your gonna need a better bore fit. All that bouncing around isn't healthy.

with weather that cold, and paint that small, you need BRAND NEW detents. it solved alot of my problems in the cold.

If I never got any paint in the breach these were barrel breaks not chops ? Or is it possible that it did break in the breach and trying to ramp through it just moved all the paint to the barrell ?

Why is this ? My detents are pretty solid and my rotors tension is as soft as possible .

Yeah but the deadlywind also chopped . My friends clone had a 689 on it and it was much better not breaking paint . And one chop wasn't a game ender .

But I did just order the two lurker barrels in case .

47 degrees , 52% . Not sure like I would never get a break in my first two pods

Also how should I sweetspot my lpr ? The gauge is very small on my lpr tester so 80 vs 75 is like the size of the needle . Do I just set it to 75-190 chrono it to 280 and then turn down the lpr till I get shoot down at psp 12.5 and then give it a 1/4 turn higher ?

Page 4 of the stickies has a guide on how to sweetspot that doesn't use the gauges much. Once you find the sweetspot with that method use your gauge to keep track of the numbers to remember them

Also when it's cold you can try upping your dwell a few clicks (to like 8-10) to see if that lets you drop your LPR and still reach velocity. You will lose efficiency but it might make the difference

Found it thanks.

Quote:
Lurker method of sweetspotting regs.

1: Back out both regs or Zero out both the LPR and HPR to 0psi
2: Raise HPR slightly only to set LPR for cycling
3: Raise LPR to fully cycling ~45psi or so
4: Raise HPR until velocity begins to stop rising as you increase pressure
5: Raise LPR to desired velocity
6: Lower HPR a bit, then raise if necessary... you're trying to find the best HPR setting at the LPR setting you have. This may put your velocity over 300/285
7: Lower LPR slightly to field velocity

"fitting orings" is ridiculous. Yeah you might get some minor benefit from it but I would be astounded if the variance between orings caused a huge performance gain. Yes orings have very loose tolerances but you're not going to see a 50 psi decrease in LPR because one oring fits slightly tighter than another.

2 more cents:
1. keep paint in warm place as close to game as you can
2. carbon fiber barrels (stiffi etc) produce less condensation
