I bought a bunch of 50 cal paintball stuff to try it out. I tested everything but never got to play a game with any of it. No fields around me use them. So now it all sits in my paintball closet (yes I have a closet dedicated to paintball) just getting old and rusty.

do they do byop? if so go to academy, buy like 5 cases of paint paint (its generally 20$ for 2000) then have fun all day and not care how much paint you use!

No BYOP. I will probably just find some youngster starting to play and sell it cheap or give it away.

I've never had any problems with FPO fields allowing me to bring paint with me if it's a caliber they don't carry(.43 and .50, to be specific). It never hurts to ask. Call ahead and offer to pay a few dollars for the privilege if you think they might not be willing. Every field I've been to has allowed it, though one asks that I pay $5 if I do use it.
Also, even if they don't hold .50 specific games, they will usually allow you to play with the .68 crowd, though you will have to play much more aggressively.

I threw my GiMilsim gun out. No fresh paint exists. Everything out there for paint has now been sitting on the shelf for a year. No huge price savings as the only way to get the paint is to order it online and pay for shipping. Costs more than the cheap stuff in 68 from the field.
I can buy an Eclipse Ego 7 or 8 for ~ $300
Shoot .68 caliber, have no issues.
I find that the people that push the .50 caliber are the wannabe hipsters of paintball. You know the kind of guys that show up in skinny jeans at a coffee shop with a typewriter because they're cooler than the rest.
I think JT finally showed us where .50 cal belongs (with the splat masters)... In the hands of 8 year olds.

I want to try out 50 Cal to be honest, it's just that I don't think it really saves that much to be honest.
Maybe it will come back, but it seems like the thing that brought it's most people is dying/is gone.

for me it doesnt save any money I got out like a mad man shooting at everything that moves. I try to limit my self to 2 pods and a loads but that is still quiet a bit a paint. 4 pod pack and 68ci 4500 when i need to get even. lol still a blast though

Well I guess I shouldn't argue with ignorance but ill give it a shot.
In my case paintball is not limited to .68 cal and I can enjoy .50 cal just the same as the larger variant. Slinging paint is slinging paint and I care not what size it is or what marker it comes out of. I find it odd that one, like yourself, would have so much distaste for something that can be enjoyed by others in the sport. Ever hear the phrase "To Each His Own"
.50 cal may not fit "your" needs but in the end you are just a hater.

I beg to differ on the point of "No fresh paint"... Jt splatmaster paint shoots beautifully out of my Opus and it gets restocked about once a week at the local walmart.
Now, at $17/1000, it's not significantly cheaper than .68, but it is also a much higher grade shell than anything in the same price range(pretty much on par with evil). Breaks well, shoots straight, easy to find. What's not to love?

my local fields are all BYOP. As long as you're chrono'ing under 300 and it's not monster/usarmy paint, you're good.
I bought a GI50 a while back, and I use an old SP1 body to make it vertical-feed. modded the paddles in my pinokio, and now it'll feed 15bps consistently all day. I can only ever find Formula 13, so that's what I usually stock up on. 1 case will last a LONG time (4,000 for the price of 2,000 .68). The only trouble I have is that occasionally I get a ball roll past the detents and out the end of the barrel. I'll be trying to make my own spring-loaded ones shortly
**edit: I wanted to take the budget-baller route on this setup, using an existing hopper/tank, new marker only. Here's a link for the GI50 on ANSgear.
