I have used countless numbers of Tippmanns over the years. Mainly the 98, A-5, and Sl-68. Don't like the design of the x7 enough to even test shoot it.

Regardless I don't believe any of them ever had the ACT function. Even when I put an electronic hopper(halos or better) on the 98s when I use an RT or Egrip I will chop a ball every once in awhile. Curious on your guys experience with an RT or Egrip on the ACT markers. Does it actually work, as in have you guys ever chopped a ball? Thinking of buying a new one with ACT but not sure if I should.

Ive never used one but I hear good things about them. Basically if a ball isnt fed in all they way, the bolt will detect the pressure, stop, and the linkage arm will slip off the front bolt, not crushing the ball. It then resets when the bolt goes back.

having had one before with the egrip its not really that awesome, i have a feeling it would probably break a ball anyway just not chop it up. a Good electro hopper or cyclone always kept up with my response or egrip trigger.

Honestly I wouldn't let that determine how you buy a tippmann since chopping a ball, besides losing some accuracy, wont affect nearly at all if you can get a better deal on a non act one with some ups to it i'd go with that over just a bone stock ACT.

As for if you chop a ball, I use rainX on the inside of my barrel and that usually clears most breaks pretty well.

Act bolts are cheap anyway, so you could just buy the cheaper gun and then buy a new bolt for it.

But you'd still need the linkage and spring.
