Body puncture?

I noticed a leak that was coming out of the barrel in my species last night, so first I changed and lubed the poppet o-ring, but that didn't change anything.

So, tonight I stripped it down to replace the ram sleeve o-rings and then I noticed this:

I know it's hard to tell from the picture, but it's not really bumped out that far. You can feel the outline of it if you run your finger over it though.

How can I test to see if there's actually a hole?

I've got some JB weld if necessary, but that's sorta my last resort.

Also, the ram sleeve o-rings did have some small cuts on them, so it's still possible they were the culprit, but while it's apart I figured i'd inspect this.

i would replace the ram sleeve orings first and see if that fixes it. if thats not the answer then you probably punctured it.

My A-Bomb had a pretty sizable bump in it as well, it's surprising how far you can bump before it punctures. If it still leaks with new ram sleeve orings that's the best way to tell.

someone made a little puncture repair kit, if that is the problem, the little kit fixes it nicely. its basically just a screw with an oring that has female threads on the head of it. the oring seals the puncture (you can loctite it too) and then you just use a shorter screw that threads into that to hold on the frame. easy fix and you dont have to put jbweld on it.

cant remember right now who made it...

thanks for all the input guys!

I'm going to try and re-install the sleeve with new o-rings and some fresh 55 tonight.

ripdisc, that sounds like a pretty cool solution. If you remember let me know!

What i'm thinking about doing is measuring how long that screw is and seeing if I can shave off a few of the threads with my dremel. The goal would be for it to still grip enough in the slot, but even if you cranked the screw in it wouldn't get close to pressing this puncture any further.

You could send to blast if it is punctured they will basically install what was described so it wouldn't leak and couldn't be punctured again.I'm going to do that with one of my dragons because someone drilled all the way through then had the screw installed with Teflon to hide any leaks

Yeah, that's probably the best way to solve it, but i'm curious what they charge to fix it. Might have to give them a call (but hopefully not!)

Gabe got sick of fixing it with JB weld. It's a good fix.

Sweet! You can also get washers for your body screws, they're actually in the parts list in the alias manual so you can get the right size

George - It's not punctured yet, but it's getting there. Generally if you can get the sleeve in and out with relative ease, you're not going to have any problems.

I would avoid JB weld for the time being. Consider putting some red loctite high in the thread area, let it dry and then put the screw in. It'll have a similar effect. I'd speculate that your leak is more o-ring related. Little leaks aren't usually body punctures.

It's like $45. I can show you what they did with the Prototype Ironman that I have at home. It's not just a repair but an insert that your screw threads into and will prevent the problem from happening again.

Nice info, as per usual
It does feel a little rough, but i'm hoping it's not enough to inflict any damage onto the sleeve o-rings. To be safe, i'm going to go grab a few more pairs after work. For some reason those 112 o-rings give me oodles of trouble.

I'll see if i've got some red loctite to drop in there to see if that helps any.

the ram sleeve Orings are the worst to replace. took me a few tries to learn how to get mine in without screwing them up

tell me about it! I've got no trouble with the sleeve in my classic that uses the 015s. It's going to be a battle later, I can already tell

figured i'd update this

I swapped out the ram sleeve o-rings -- only took two tries lol -- but i'm pretty sure that fixed it.
While reassembling though, I ran into some issues with the tubing. I installed a timmy jock strap, but the first tube connection on the ram sleeve was pinching because they were these thicker hyper flow tubes. Swapped them all out for some regular tubing in my kit and now it's perfect. I need to get it out and chrono it, but i've got a good feeling.

I feel centered now
