insanity is more cardio directed than p90x

i have completed insanity, against my will, but i dont plan to ever try p90x

if you have the equipment already for p90x and want to retain some muscle, p90x is the way to go in my opinion. if you just want to lose weight with no regards to muscle loss, insanity should definitely help you lose a good 20lbs as long as your diet is alright

Basically what JewFro said.

I know down here, Insanity is all the rage for people trying to get in great cardio shape and lose weight, but most of the people I see doing it aren't getting stronger by any means.

If you're SET on doing a circuit training program, I'd do P90X over Insanity.

I think its just a glorified form of cardio. But if you are trying to lose weight it will work.

Circuits are pretty damn good for pure fat loss. Plus it gives you that "workout" feeling that a newbie would be looking for.

Could insanity be combined with normal lifting? I'm thinking insanity in the morning and gym in the evening.

Or is that just way too much?

Prolly a little too much , if anything do some normal cardio or something in the morning , it also depends on what your looking to do

I have both workout DVDs. Quick breakdown

P90X - you will require some weights and a pull up bar. In some cases you can use the elastic bands to save some money and space. You will get a great cardio workout and build more muscle due to the increase weight resistance (weights/bands). It is 90 days and workouts are a little over an hour once you average out the whole program. I do not have the time to go buy a lot of weights and/or a good pull up bar. I may try this after my insanity program but not sure.

Insanity – You only need a decent space to move around for certain moves. This is mainly cardio workout but there is some form of strength trainings with push-ups and such. You will lean out and muscles will show up. If you are looking for that “bulky” muscle look..this program won’t give you that. It is 60 days and workouts are a little over an hour once you average out the whole program. What I love about this program is that it feels perfect for paintball. It will push you for about 2min and then give you a quick 30 sec break.. then right back into it. Pretty much just like paintball. I remember after two weeks of insanity, it was like night and day for me at the field. My main selling point is that it doesn’t require any equipment. I can load the files onto ipad and still do my workout if I happen to be out of town on business.

The meal plan for both is pretty nice and detailed but I just don’t have the time to make it. So I try to take a little from it to fit my hectic lifestyle. You simply have to ask yourself what your main goal is. I think the driving factor between the two is how much muscle do you want to gain…

Those gifs were magical. Thank you.

Insanity is a great cardio program IN BETWEEN going to the gym. I just do month 1's pure cardio, it's a sweet HIIT program. Other than that, it's pretty worthless.

P90X.. If you want to have the tiniest legs in the world, no lower back, and a terrible chest/tri and back/bi ratio ever, than yeah. It's awesome.

Instead, go do a program like Strong Lifts 5x5 or Starting Strength. Get good, and move onto the Texas Method, or 5/3/1. Then when you get some experience, you can start going into the crazy programs. Do that for a few years, and then you can successfully say that you're experienced enough to know what does what and can create your own program. Until then, stick to something that is tried and true. And don't do curls in the squat rack.
