The ape wasn't all it was cracked up to be. It was down on both sides, which I probably could have lived with. But the speedo had moisture in it. Not just a little bit like residue, but it was inside a warm showroom for days and there were still water droplets in it. And the front end had something wrong with it. Either a bad front axle, head bearings or something. It also wouldn't go into neutral. The shifter had no signs of being bent or hitting the ground. Not sure what was up with that but I didn't like it.
I rode the **** out of it. It is fast and brutal. I loved that, and the sound is intoxicating. But after talking to the sales guy for about 2 minutes he was ready to write me up, told me i could come back tomorrow and ride away on temp. plates before we had even talked numbers, before he saw my FZ-6 or anything. I definaetly got the feeling they wanted that thing out of the shop as quick as possible.

K more questions. What do you guys think of this deal?
2012 street triple r in diablo red
9599
Salesman offered me 500$ off to get rid of freight/ set up charges
so 9099
3k trade in for my FZ-6 (stock more or less with 25k miles.)
So I'd be at 6099 for a brand new STR.

Seems like a pretty lateral step from a fz6 to a street triple. Any specific reason you want to get rid of the fz? I wouldn't be too excited about more expensive insurance and a new payment for a relatively similar bike. Maybe if it were a speed triple :x

Its just a buzz box. It has no character. But is set-your-watch-by-it reliable. I have a clean driving and riding record. No tickets or accidents so my insurance is dirt cheap. Transfering my same coverage with progressive increases my policy by 100$. My monthly insurance for my FZ and my girls ninja is 32$ a month @ full coverage with roadside assistance and transport trailer coverage.

Speed tripple.
But the streets are sexy too and you probably would like it a lot more than the fz.

The only thing a speed triple will do for me is raise the insurance. I'm never gonna use 1/2 what it's capable for. Especially when it's got a sexy counter part.
What do you guys think of those numbers?

Honestly, I'd prolly just stay on the fz if I were you. Maybe take the money you arent spending on the str on tools to chop on the fz and brutalize that thing. Remove that quarter fairing and put a plain headlight up there, led turns, maybe even rake it? Plus to that would be learning how to do that **** so later on you could do it to another bike (i.e.; an aprilia tuono)
Id love to have a naked street bike to chop. All the ones I've seen are sick.

Thoughts on rebel 250's?
I've got both of my credit cards paid off now, just got a promotion at work, and finally have excess income after bills/savings.
I'm just looking for something good on gas, comfortable. I don't need to go fast, because there's nowhere to go fast around here that isn't loaded with traffic or cops (living at the beach sucks...cops come out for the tourists, cops get bored when the tourists leave)
Any similar bikes to a rebel 250 I should look at? I've ridden ninja 250's, and I found them uncomfortable, especially given the fact that my daily commute is 30-45 minutes.
Looking in the $2000 range.
edit - I should mention that older bikes aren't out of the question, I work at a car dealership, and 90% of the techs ride, so help with fixing something/bringing something up to mechanical par won't be an issue.

this would make an excellent learner's 250.
i don't know about the rebels, but i do know that i've always been impressed with the quality honda puts into their motorcycles, even the budget minded models. i do know a rebel 250 won't be fast, will sip gas and is probably going to be very cheap to insure. i can't imagine parts being expensive either. only thing i would do differently is buy a bike that doesn't need any work. you want to ride, not wrench, trust us. even if you think it's a "small project", unless you 100% know you can tackle it within a certain time frame for a certain budget i wouldn't touch it.
what year ninja 250 did you ride? my pre-gen feels just like any ole' UJM, feels just like my old cb450. the new-gen model feels a bit sportier and i found it to be uncomfortable too.

GS 500 if can find one under 2 grand... low mileage 500cc and under 80s bikes are usually under 2000 as well. I didn't like the rebel due to everything on the bike was lack luster (doesn't brake well, doesn't handle well at speed, slow as hell). The only thing that was nice was a cruiser riding position and you could maneuver it in a parking like really easy (except you scrape pegs)
