That usually means it's got a ton problems and the seller wants it gone.

Yeah and I get that, its kind of a Fixxer-upper. But at 3000$ less than the KBB value it seems like it might be worth the trouble.

KBB value is terribly inaccurate for motorcycles so keep that in mind. I'm guess the value of an 08 is about 5-6, minus the 3k for damages. So if your budget is about 2-3k you could get a ninja 250, sv650 and a nice set of gear, have the bike registered and insured for a year for close to 3k.

It's in your best interest to stay away from the supersports just starting out...I'm usre the bike is fine, but there will still be deals out there in a year or two.

Bike was stolen, he stole it back. I'd stay away from it. Imagine you park the bike at a gas station and walk inside for some water and the person that 'stole' it originally sees you on their bike. I'd avoid it honestly. Plus, its too much bike to start on.

no, not for 3K... I've seen zx6r and similar performing bike with similar mileage and age for under 4K easily that haven't been ****ed with.

I can't decide between a Ninja250 or an SV650 for my first bike. I'm leaning towards the SV though.

I don't like the look of the 250, thats the main reason I am trying to avoid it. IS the 250 smaller physically in size?

Depends on your purpose and your experience riding, I like the ninja 250s but they aren't for everyone. Personally I like the GS500 better for an all around bike because you have more low end power, but it would never be a back roads carver the 250 is. The EX500 is another great bike to think about as well. Also, if you can afford it i think the ninja 300 is a great new bike to get. Though it's pretty easy to find quite fast bikes for under 3K.

I have no experience riding a street bike, I have a decent amount on a dirt bike, not sure if that counts.

Definitely counts for a bit, I was in the same boat as you I rode a 400 dirt bike on trails. Then went with a 44 hp suzuki gs450 and loved it and moved after a year and had to sell, I now currently have 68hp honda vf500 and feel that it's more than enough power for the backroads where I live. I think an 11 second quarter mile bike is way too much for an intermediate rider on the street.

I have patience as long as the person is open minded.

Yes. There are plenty of other options though. I will list some.

GS500
EX500
Honda hawk 650
SV650, kaw ninja650r (these are on the quick side for a beginner.)
Bandit 400
honda cb-1
fzr400
ducati m620
A plethora of 80s bikes floating areound if you can find one in good shape.
Older carburated 600ss bikes can be had for under 2000 dollars all day long. I wouldn't recommend them, but they would be a better choice than a late model zx6r

Push away your vain impulses. Looks should be at the bottom of the list of factors for your first bike.

Unture sir. They were quite popular in club racing in their day. Battling EX500s, before the SV came along.
