Not entirely. But The sport started with pump and pump will always be a part of the sport.

All things progress, even the pump section of paintball is still progressing. Look at the new pumps coming out now. They are a far cry from the original Nelspots and PGPs...

The new Avratech Retro 7 was a remake of the Nelspot 007...but a modernized, souped up version with all of todays fancy bells and whistles.

CCMs are super nice snipers.

Players my pick up pumps to augment their paintball experience but it is not likely that semi or electro will ever disappear.

Well it was never really in the past.

Pump has never been mainstream, and I don't think it ever will be honestly. Also, there are fewer companies surrounding pump guns than there are electros and mechs. Therefore pump doesn't have as much attention.

I personally love it, don't get me wrong. It's cheaper, requires a hell of a lot more skill, and you can make crazy moves.

Is pump in the future of paintball? Sure

Is tournament speedball in the future of paintball? Sure

Is rec mil-sim in the future of paintball? Sure.

Is outlaw in the future of paintball? Yep.

Are commercial fields in the future of paintball? Yep.

The thing about all the different forms of paintball is they are not mutually exclusive. You can have them all.

I'd like to think so, but the allure of semiauto firepower will always be strong. It is especially strong among the inexperienced.

even though I play pump exclusively, I hope not... the $ not put in by the semi players can be economically devastating to the sport

If pump became the main game play, the sport would come to a halt as far as advancements go. If semi never would have happened we never would have gotten good hoppers, HPA, advanced boards, EP solenoids, or anything pertaining to an E marker in general. I love pump, and I play pump, but if it wasn't for semi our sport would have been dead long ago. Its one of the reasons I am so fond of Cockers and Mags. If you remove them from history then we would all still be shooting Pro Carbines and Crossmann pistols.

I believe that the A4 Fly was the climax of the speed wars. I don't think we will ever have another marker capable of its ROF. With tournaments being locked down at an ROF that the cheapest E Spyder can pull, we don't have any use for the 45bps markers. Instead we have moved to smaller, lighter and more efficient markers. They sacrifice all out speed for a more user friendly package.

I think better range and accuracy are the future of paintball. I feel that First Strike rounds and the like will become a MUCH larger segment of the industry. The proof is already out there, with at least 3 new big name FS guns coming out this year.

Are you counting the multiple ones that spyder is putting out or is there another?

I agree with the first part of your statement, that much of the advances in paintbal would have not happened, had we never gone past pumps. But I disagree when you say "but if it wasn't for semi our sport would have been dead long ago." There is no way anyone could know that. If technology were still at the pump stage and semis were not available, no one would know what they were missing, so everyone would just happily be playing paintball with pumps. Just an opinion of course.

Markers capable of the first strike rounds. (spelling may be a bit off...And the list is probably not exaustive as I have probably missed something...)

Tac 8/9.1
Tib T4
TiPX (with a kit...I think?)
The new Spider MR5?
Kingman Hammer 7
RAP4 has something coming out...
Empire Traccer
Avratech Retro 7
CCM SR-1
Carmatech? SAR12
Tippmann SMG

I agree, FSRs are becoming a bigger part of paintball. But I am not sure they will grow to be a HUGE part of paintball. Especially while their cost is still quite high.

If more companies are ever able to produce them (if its even possible), and more semi FSR ready guns at affordible prices hit the market then I think they have a Big potential to expand!

I'm not so sure FSR will take over, and I personally would not like to see them take over. IMO the last thing we need is longer engagement ranges and more sniping.

But I don't know, can anyone speak to how FSRs handle around a typical speedball field, versus normal paintballs?

Faster overall time to target, flatter trajectory, etc. Stock class and FS shooters at this point are roughly the same speed, so anyone comfy with the former should be able to manage the latter.

Don't forget ScarabArms' stuff. I guess I'm not sure how new it is, but they are making a "curved" high-cap mag for their FS guns.

Unless they've changed FSRs, they either do not decompose or decompose very, very slowly, so as a field, we don't allow them.
