proper gear

Can I play paintball without a mask, so long as I have a good goggle set (military grade)?

No you cannot. Don't be a cheap *** go to wal-mart and buy a paintball mask, they are not that expensive. Lets say you go play with those goggles, what happens if you get shot and the paintball goes down your throat because you were talking to your team mate, you might die from suffocation. You would regret being cheap when you are on the ground suffocating.

I mean not to mention that those goggles also could be to weak. I wouldn't be suprised to see them crack when you got shot, which is pretty freaking dangerous. The guy above talked about getting shot in the mouth. I don't think you would suffocate, but a shot into the open mouth would mess you up pretty bad, hospital bad. You also could lose teeth and bust lips. Getting shot in the nose wouldn't be good either. Play with a mask or not at all.

Let's Compare:
$20 for a mask at Walmart
vs.
Spending the rest of your life blind
Hundred/Thousands in Hospital bills
Broken Nose
Broken Teeth

I would say no goggles alone are not okay, you need a mask.

well people started playing only with googles, but they improved for a mask for a reason, and to keep the sport safe the full mask IS A MUST.
and 20 bucks will not kill you

If by "Military Grade" you mean those ESS goggles, then most definitely NO!

Just FYI they WILL break. I shot a pair with an airsoft gun and beleive me, they are not "Highly Impact Resistant" like it says on the package. Remember that "Military Grade" only means bare minimum. A wise man once said, "Never forget that your weapon was made by the lowest bidder". Nowhere is this more apparent than in the military.

Alright, thanks e'rybody for the info. In retrospect it was a dumb question but I couldn't find answers anywhere else so I thought I'd ask.

Also, is this the right place to ask about which masks are the best? As in, aren't bulky and don't fog up?

-thanks

This could turn into a vs. thread really fast. So before the lock comes...The i4's definitely are the smallest the smallest mask. And any mask with dual pane thermal lenses will not fog up.

I'm not going to comment on which mask I think is best. But I would recommend going to your local paintball shop and trying on masks until you find one you like. You don't need to spend a fortune to get a good mask.

Alright, thermal lens won't fog. i4s are small. make sure I try the masks on before buying.

That's all I needed, thanks everyone.

I wouldnt say that thermals dont fog. if you are a heavy sweater like me you can fog up anything. Personally I like the V-force Grillz but the empire events are really nice too. I use an anti fog cloth on days when I know I will fog. Try on several and see what fits your face and whats comfortable, think "would I like to wear this for 2 hours at a time" Thats a good indicator of a good mask imo.

I also wear a sandanna with a bandanna on top and my black pair will fog and my green one will sometimes, the black ones are older though

1. Yes, you absolutely MUST wear FULL facial protection specifically designed for paintball.

2. Without making it a versus topic, I use Dye I4's. I use them because they are small, don't fog and feature easy maintenance.

what if the player was wearing a lower mesh mask (to cover the mouth) and a full certified paintball goggle to go along with it? You know the goggle that is fully sealed?

No.

Paintball "goggles" of ancient times are NOT compliant with current regulations/standards/being smart.
