1,000 Chinese boats headed to Japanese islands
http://www.japantimes.co.jp/text/nn20120917x1.html (Just the first link I could find)
Quote:
Around 1,000 Chinese fishing boats are expected to arrive in waters near the Senkaku Islands claimed by China later Monday, the state-run China National Radio reported, in what may be Beijing's additional countermeasures over Japan's nationalization of the islets.
If a large number of Chinese vessels intrude into Japanese territorial waters around the Japanese-controlled islands in the East China Sea, it could trigger unexpected incidents such as clashes with Japan Coast Guard patrol ships, further escalating tensions between the two countries.
|
As if the tension in the ME was not enough... What do you guys think will come of this? I am told that the US is obliged to aide Japan should anything happen.
Anyone seen the images of the rioting in China? Crazy stuff.

Yea... that is part of a treaty we signed after we dropped 2 nuclear bombs on them.
The riots and what have you in China are believed to be a made up issue by their government to shift blame for them not being able to sustain or continue upward momentum that their government has promised.
Can't accomplish your goals? Oh no! An outside enemy to take the spotlight away from us!

The Pinnacle Islands has been disputed since 1945. This is nothing new at all.

my question is what can the japanese coast guard do against 1000 ships? even if they stop 100, thats still 900 that can get by onto the islands. They can't fire on these ships without starting an international incident. And lets say the chinese land on these islands, are they going to do an occupy movement of sorts? If that is the case, what is the sustainability of hosting circa 10,000+ people on these islands? Do they need supplies from china and will china be willing to supply them if thats the case.
Interesting plan but is it well thought out?

It is a state sanctioned act, so China completely supports it as far as I understand.
Also, I realize that the tension itself is not new. It's the fact that there have been thousands of people in China rioting, destroying anything Japanese, and essentially pushing the Japanese away from the country.

Boutta spend a couple G's on SHTF ammo, guns, and other necessities. I will be prepared homies.
Seriously, what is with all of this controversy all over the world? Muslims rioting and ish in the middle east. Americans being killed over there. Iran saying they're going to start patrolling our waters again(I think that's correct but don't hold it against me if it's wrong). Now this stuff. Supposedly Al Queda was responsible for the attacks in Libya as well. And we've got Obama as our president still. That's a large enough problem.

Do you think silver spoon Romney ( who has no foriegn policy cred) is going to better? Especially when on his last global tour he made a complete fool of himself? Shades of Dubya will haunt him.

I don't know if he'll be better or worse. Do you know? I doubt it.
We've seen 4 years of Obama. I don't want another 4 years of him. What has he done for this economy?

Why don't you explain to him why you don't like his statement.

I dont understand where people are critiquing Romney's foreign policy experience. Obama had zero experience before his presidency so overall the point is moot.

Just take a look at the state of the country. It's not hard to tell we're in a bad state and he's not improving it.

This has always boggled my mind. Surely we're looking at the same reality here, an the empirical data doesn't lie that the economy is improving. Regardless, I have no idea what Obama has to do with the Chinese/Japanese disputes, but its really none of our (the US) business... so let's keep it that way, sit back, and enjoy.

The reality is that it has been made out to be our business, and unfortunately we will have to deal with it in some way, at some point.

An additional stimulus strategy wouldn't be necessary for an 'improving' economy.
As far as it being none of our business, the United States affected the fate of the Senkaku islands after the end of World War II with the signing of the Potsdam Declaration. In addition, the United States gave administrative authority to the Japanese in 1971. These actions only further compound a complex land conflict. The real problem(s) are the affects to the international economy.

It may not be our problem, but don't act surprised when suddenly it is our problem.
