So before I move to California in January, I want to pick up some glass.

Option A.) 70-200 2.8, and that's it.

Option B.) 17-40 f4, and 70-200 f4.

Slower glass, but more of it, or fast glass.

I'm leaning towards Option B because I don't necessarily know how much low light shooting I'll be doing for quite some time.

I say option A. But that's me and I live somewhere where it's always dark and most everything is indoors.

More lenses give you more versatility and until you narrow down what you will be using your lenses for why not have two solid ones.

At least owning the 70-200 F4 you can see if you really need those stops or not while also having a 17-40.

I love my 70-200 f/4. For my needs, I don't need the extra stops. Just my .02.

I actually like the 4.0 better than the 2.8 for shooting paintball video. it's lighter, it's easier to pull focus with, it's smaller so it gets hit less. plus I don't need the extra stop of light.

This California is sunny 300 days out of the year :maybedodgy: so you'd do just fine with two lenses at f/4 unless you're planning on a lot of night time shooting.

Option A as you wont have to upgrade again any time soon, but if you dont plan on any low light, then definitely go B
