They were all in the same pose. It's so much easier just to go at 250 photos that way. I got the email back:

The lighting is glary on that girl because she has super oily skin . . and acne. Not much I can do about that on the fly with the same lighting for everyone. Same lighting, same class, couple of photos later so whatever:

Probably could've been fixed in Photoshop, unless you were under a heavy deadline =/

I'm not going to go through on the photos and fix everyone on the off chance someone will complain about oily skin. She doesn't like the photo and nothing I can do will change that. She wants:

I tend to agree with Dave here. Why not take the time now to turn a dissatisfied customer into a raving fan? Fixing the lighting would take only a few minutes and then you could offer her a "discount" on the new prints so you're still making money on the product.

How many images overall did you take and what turn around time were you given?

15 years ago my high school photos had the option to have retouching done. My mom always ordered it because I had pretty bad acne and was very conscious of it.

I've never had a complaint, but this is most likely what I would do in this situation. refunding money for a service that has already been completely is my absolute last resort.. not because I need the money, but it lowers the standard set for my work.. or at least that's the way I feel..

meh, she said she didn't like the glare lighting, the background, and the pose. So how am I supposed to fix that in PS? I think she had in her mind what she wanted to see and it didn't come out that way. I had about 250 photos to do and deliver (about 700 prints). She did mention that there was no option for retouching that I had . . . and I could do it but it's worth it to me to just do a refund, make her happy that way, than to retouch, reorder, etc. etc. I have serious doubts that anyone else is going to ask for a refund. Out of 250 students I figure one mom who is picky isn't a big deal.

For real though, he's someone who has strongly influenced my paintball photography and due to his absence on the paintball field, he's really given me an opportunity to take over his roll with Shock. He helped me a ton as well, I had some big shoes to fill and he's constructively guided me with my photography since day one.

As for the refund stuff. I don't think a refund is the best solution here. It's only 20-30 bucks. If she really didn't want anything done about it, she probably would have just sucked it up to ****ty school pictures and never said anything. The fact that she came to you, means something. A complaining customer means they want to return to you as a customer in the future. They want you to be better the second time. I think by refunding her, you are showing that you don't want to fix your "wrongs" and will just blow her off with a refund in the future.

You should have offered her some retouching like she mentioned (how long would it have taken to at least try to retouch it to show some good faith?) and if all else failed, give the refund.

Even though she is one customer, you think she won't go to all her friends in the class and ***** about your ****ty job? It seems like the mom will for sure go out of her way to bad mouth you if she is unhappy.
