I have noticed an increased amount of "new-old school gear" and pump play. Everyone in my area is moving away from speedball and heading out in the woods. I've heard people complaining that they can't buy less than 500 paintballs at a time. Guys are ditching electros. I'm excited
I'm noticing more pumps lately. I hope the trend continues because I love playing pump and would love to see the day where we have enough pumpers at the field that we can break up into a pump only group.
I agree that these trends tend to be localized. There are usually a few key players in a local area (often the local field owners) who tend to set the trends. We have a lot of recreational woodsball in our area with lots of pump players and a general lower paintball volume atmosphere. But that is most likely due to the fact that the most popular local field markets that type of play. Other areas may have mostly speedball setups with the field owners mostly interested in speedball. Those areas tend to have a higher concentration of speedball activity.
