Picked up a Cyborg RX, need some help

Picked up a Cyborg RX for $80 last night, but it has some issues.

First, I believe that the board may be bad, as after 5 different fresh batteries, I cannot get anything to respond. Is there another way to test it?

If the board ends up being bad, will a Drone DX board work with it?

Here's a pic:

On the MacDev site, it shows the Clone board works for the Cyborg RX. I have a Clone board in my Drone, and the factory Drone board is sitting in a box. It should physically fit and wire up, but I'm not sure if I will have issues with the settings.

Y not put the drone board back in the drone and use the clone board on the rx? Make sure the connectors are seating properly on the battery and make sure they are connected properly to the board.

Although I've been told I'll change my mine pretty quickly, the Drone is my main and the RX will be my backup. If I need to purchase a new clone board, I will. I just wanted to see if the Drone board would work...temporarily.

The battery connectors are just metal tabs soldered to the board, correct? Is there something in particular I should look for on the board end?

Asking price was $200. I got there with cash in hand, but then the board wouldn't fire up. He said $100, I said $80. He said "OK". I drove home smiling.

Could it just be the screen. After installing the battery, check the breach to see if the eyes light up. If not, press the other button to turn eyes off and listen for the noid click. Best case scenario is that it could just be the screen.

80! Man what a steal! The only thing you needed was to club him over the head and then run off with the gun

No lights, no click when the eyes are turned off. Just to be sure, when looking at the board, the wires should go yellow/black, black/red, white/red, correct?

I don't doubt I got a deal. I just realized it has the gold bolt and the v2 rammer. I'm not gonna call it a steal until I get a board in it and it shoots.

So you press the power button and literally nothing happens? No light from the eyes, no noid clicking noise? I would say press the power button and then hold the trigger to try to use the forced shot and see if anything is responding. Just eliminates the step of having to turn the eyes off. If there is no light from the eyes anyways then this is probably a moot point.

Zippin, nothing happens. No lights, no screen, no eyes.

The guy I bought it from said he thought the noid was bad. He said he would shoot 35 shots fine and then the gun would go haywire and rapid fire, chopping paint in the process. Could this be a symptom of a board going bad?

Now that is a GREAT suggestion!! If I don't have it worked out by then I'll definitely bring it out, though I hope to be shooting this thing sooner than that.

Can anyone verify the eyes and solenoid are wired in there correctly? yellow/black, black/red, white/red

Eyes are backwards. Yellow/black should be in the middle.

Should be white/red - yellow/black - black/red

Sounds like everything is in the wrong spot. Put it like listed above and perhaps you'll be in luck!

Well, there's some progress!!!! I now have eye lights and solenoid click. No screen, though.

It's weird as the manual says "Red/black wire eye is the left hand plug Yellow/black wire eye is the centre plug."

I'm going by the pic here:

Unfortunately I'm not home so can't take a look at my RX to verify. Perhaps someone else could take a look at their for you. Easy solution, pop the frame off and see what wires are coming off the noid. Those go in the right most socket.

Also, for the screen, look at that link. Do you have a type A or type B screen (type A would have been factory). Do you see anything at all. Like single pixel lit up? Just making sure the board isn't flashed for the wrong type of screen. It's more probably that your screen is just shot and you need the 30 dollar replacement (if the board is good).

Trace the noid wires to verify everything's in the right spot and make sure it clicks with eyes off. Just power it on, hold down the bottom button for a few seconds, and see if it clicks.

It's a Type A screen. No pixels are lit. Seems dead. A new screen sounds much better than a new board.

I turned the eyes off and noid clicks every time.

I will check mine when I get home to verify but it sounds like progress is being made. Sometime if you wiggle the screen a bit the connection can catch properly.

If wiggling the screen doesn't help like Zippin suggested then likely you just need a new one. Seems like you may just need a 30 dollar part and you got yourself a 110 dollar RX. Definitely the best deal I've heard in a long time!

No good with the wiggling the screen. I PM'd you Fresh. My only question would be what the difference is between the two screens? Is there an issue with the type A screens that necessitated the type B screen be released?

There are still a few other things I have to take care of. The grips are wasted. The membrane pad doesn't stay, so I have to get one of those as well. Although, If I end up with under $150 in this thing, I won't stop there. It has a few places where the anno has rubbed off, including the breech. I might just send it out to get the anno re-done.
