I just dumped 10-12k into a 2008 STI so I know where you're coming from... but let me tell you this:
If you own the minivan but not the supra ditch the supra and keep the van. If you don't own either ditch the supra and keep the van. If you own both keep the supra just don't insure it and park or till you can make it reliable.
I miss not having a car payment. A SrA living off base, no dependents, and owns his car... yeah it was nice! All my bills were: cell (80 bucks), insurance (90), rent (375) and then stuff like gas food etc etc.
I made the mistake of buying a newer car without getting it looked at by a professional. I ended up having to replace the motor, turbo, and everything besides the drive train. The clutch has been shot since 45k miles and the car has just been abused. Its been an awful adventure. I did the stuff I did because I needed a reliable DD. If I could have found some loophole and had the car totalled and built it myself then yeah I would have done that but I couldn't.
Take my advice... as a young airmen get a ride that you can pay off quick because when you get to the E-4 to E-6 range you'll be able to save more money. Toys will come later and I've had to learn this the hard way. I'm making a lot of sacrifices right now cause of it
