Although I'm Army, if this advice comes off as 'elitist' then there is more to the problem. And negativity is contagious, I know, cause I've been there. The only time people don't mind being around it is when EVERYONE feels the same way and then it just gives you something to talk about. But he's right, you washed out for whatever circumstance and that's nobodies fault but your own. Either you got hurt, weren't ready physically or mentally or had a family problem, that's all on you. Live with the consequences of your failure and suck it up until the next go around. People fail all the time, but the only thing that matters is how you bounce back from it. And *****ing about how you hate your life right now is not bouncing back from it. the people that go far in the elite groups are the quiet ones that just put their head down and go. You're still making excuses.

Agreed, I *****...however I do my job 150%. and it's not my job I hate...it's just the air force medical in general. their attitudes suck, and do you know why(this is towards Dye)? Because half my career field, probably more is filled we washouts who "don't want to be lab"...so they suck balls and complain when they have no right to. If I had the ability and rank I would make it like this. If you washout of your first career choice, if you choose to retrain instead of getting out, you are waiving your right to retrain at your 3/5 year mark depending on enlistment like someone who DIDN'T fail their first career choice....so, for example, we get asshat #1 who failed PJ school, wasted 3-6 months trying, then wait another 3-6 to re train, goes through 15 month lab tech school, gets to my base and finishes his CDC's and immediately retrains/trys to retrain and the whole time they suck as a lab tech, so im stuck working more night shift, missing more holidays, unable to take leave and have to work twice as hard to ensure that our lab provides the best medical care to patients, all because their **** sucks....

tl;dr-NWCD and Duffek are right, nut up, shut up, and you shouldn't even be allowed to retrain until after you 6 year enlistment imo.

Completely disagree. Your supervisors/leadership is failing you and the AF by putting up with subpar work. If his EPRs would reflect his contributions, his retrain chance would be down the toilet. There are a few jobs that require prior service personnel.

agreed, hence why I said I'm not mad with my job, I love it. I just can't stand the medical side of the AF, aka leadership. I've mentioned this exact issue many times though, and have also said if their EPR's reflected their work then they wouldn't retrain, and would try harder if they still intended to retrain but nothing ever happens because "well, we haven't seen their work performance, but thanks for bring up the issue...".

and, you make a good point with the retraining...that's just how I feel about it sometimes though in my position. People around me just don't care and it wears me down a lot.

yeah, all the good leaders are flyers

in all seriousness there's some good ones though.

One of our officers put on Major yesterday which was nice. He's a good guy and a good officer. He's pretty humble too, thanked all the people there for helping him out because you can't make rank when your guys don't do their jobs.

That's teh entire AF, not just medical. Worked with people in Korea who didn't do a damn thing for a year and got FW 5's and decs.

That's the AF enlisted performance feedback/rating system. It is inflated. Now if anyone has worked with the Navy their system seems to work fairly well. A 3 is average and lots of people get 3s, 4s, and outstanding performers get 5s and lots of 5s get turned down.

Yeah, I had to go to bat for one of my people against my flight chief. I really didn't understand the purpose of the meeting. The individual failed their PT test but passed within their EPR cycle. We pushed it through as a five because she's a good troop and knows her job. Plus she had a really bad string of luck at the same time. We(me, the shop NCOIC, the assitant NCOIC and her rater) were trying to get the flight chief to understand where we were coming from. Yeah, failing a PT test is wrong but she corrected it. Plus in the current system ****bags can get fives anyway so it wouldn't be fair to her. Plus I'd rather fight for a five for somebody that's good at their job but failed their PT test than push through a five on a PT superstar that is a lazy **** in the workcenter. The number of times I made a point and had my flight chief agree with me and then continue to ask us if we felt that giving her a 5 was correct which we continuted to affirm. Real waste of time anyway. We got it through as a 5 but the rebuttal she wrote was never proofread through legal which made it weak and the push note the NCOIC wrote was lacking as well because our chief superintendent never recommended any changes. For those reasons the CC ended up non-concurring with it but due to some other factors it won't get flagged in the system as a referral.

Can't agree. Reason being, you put that same person who failed to meet standards on an air force test in the same category of the same person who does their job very well AND didn't fail any Air Force tests. You did a disservice to the Airmen who pass their tests.

I'm not on a crusade to fix our EPR system (its not fixable unless AF wide changes are made) but I like putting the best performers (all around) in a category of their own.

the test she failed was waist only and it was only an inch off, half an inch lower and they would have rounded down to a passing score. if the system wasn't inflated I wouldn't have a problem with them getting less than a 5. She isn't out of shape but she isn't skinny. It wasn't a firewall five and there were markdowns. It would come up if she applied for a special duty but it won't take away points for promotion. and like I said, she was able to pass before the end of her EPR cycle.

the cliff notes of the back story is that she had one death in her family, then she became ill with gall stones, then she had some other health issues come up, and then her sister died in a car accident. All this happened in about 3-4 months. If all that wouldn't have happened and it was a full PT test failure I'd also agree that a five was undeserved.

as a male when testing waist you have to be below a 37. Not impossible but for a lot of people that doesn't leave a lot of room for error.

I'm too drunk to read all this bull****. However, if you try to write a 5 for someone that failed a PT test but then passe din the same cycle. You're saying you expect all your troops to fail a PT test.

A 5 rating is marked as "truly among the best" so if a troop is truly among the best and has a failed pt test in that reporting period you're telling me you want all your troops to fail a PT test. I don't give af uck about what anyone says about filling boxes on the EPR. Like I explained to the Amn In my shop last week. Every block on that EPR represents your job. Your job is not just focussing on what your duties are as a 2axxx it's focusing on that, and being a well rounded amn. Sucks, but right now we're expected to go to school, volunteer with base and community, and pass a ****ing PT test. That's what we get paid to do. If you fail to meet any of those standards you're not measuring up as to what is expected of you as an AMN, NCO, SNCO, Officer, or whatever the **** you are. Our job is more than just fulfilling duties outlined by our AFSC.
