Who has attended these? Worth going, or a complete waste of time?

I ran the Tri-State Super Spartan this past September. It was well worth it. Talk about a challenge

Thats what I thought too, 4 of us did it, but by 10 min into the race we were all spread out. Not to mention everyone there was extremely cool.

Also did the tri state super, and a sprint. Enjoyable races but once you do them once it wears off. I am only doing the sprint again this year because my g/f really wanted to do it. Also did a Tough Mudder too. Tough Mudder definitely has harder obstacles especially if you are trying to do the 12 foot walls solo like I did. Mudder challenges you mentally, spartan physically especially if you are really pushing yourself for a good time.

Don't expect the Tough Mudder to be any sort of real challenge especially if your team is slower than you. Electric Eel will give you a little pain though.

I attended the Spartan Beast (13+ miles) last October in South Carolina. A lot of fun especially of you have someone to run with.

If you are moving to TN I wouldn't waste my time and money with traveling to any Spartan Race that isn't a Beast and South Carolina is the closest (7hrs from Nashville). The rest are shorter and in my opinion not worth the travel time unless you are going for the trifecta. TN has some other obstacle course races that can be fun though. Warrior Dash usually happens in September and Kentucky is having a Tough Mudder this year.

Was your beast mountainous at all? You make it seem like it was very easy. Our super was around 12 miles and that **** was exhausting because of the terrain.

It was at an ATV park. It was a lot of rolling hills some steep some gradual some tall some short but I wouldn't call it mountainous. The barbed wire crawls and sandbag carries were all up hill. It was very challenging, not easy by any means. When it was over I could barely walk. Lol. I am not in top shape but not bad shape and it took me 4 hrs. The best time at the event was 1:50. Those people are unreal.

Also as you mentioned above, it was a little easier because me and a buddy stayed together. Some times he would slow up for me and I would slow up for him and we helped each other with obstacles when we could. We weren't going for a blistering time because we had never done a race of that scale so didn't know what to expect. We paced ourselves the whole way. Those races are too long for me to go it alone. I would get bored.
