Look tournament paintball is so over just for the fact that it's too expensive to play and there's too little reward, nuff said.

cost.

cost of paint is a little out of control to begin with. and this is coming from a rec player. As for the tourny players... cost of entry for the amount of time you actually get to play.... simply isnt worth it.

As long as you don't play xball (which is crazy expensive) local appa tournaments arent that bad. Then Again I'm still in my 20's and don't have a family yet. But i also still pay for it and living myself with my part time job cause im still in school

Expensive, I went to college and no longer had time, the teams I played with frequently had issues with players actually showing up to practice/games and overall playing Rec is just a lot less stressful.

I do miss airball though.

Boom. This.

I know of fields that stopped sending teams to national events because it's a waste when they will be playing against more organized and, frankly, better teams.

I first got out because I was starting university and ran out of time/money to travel for practice and events. It's a huge commitment to play with some teams for a whole season.

This. Especially with Xball in Canada. Paying over $120/person per match, plus season fees, plus driving hours to get to the events. On top of that, nobody "wins" until the very end of the season, without and cash incentives for most divisions. It's a huge money pit, and I've been hearing from teams going to the NAX finals that they don't want even go because it's going to cost their teams thousands of extra dollars in paint, travel and accomodations just to play an extra event they added in which has almost zero chance of giving them any monetary return. This is a big deal for players who have personally invested sometimes $5000+ each into the season just to play paintball at their level.

As people are seeing it now, if you're spending that much money to play anyway, you might as well put up the cash to play national events to get the full experience, media coverage, better competition and actual chances to win some prize money.

I've been seeing a pretty large shift with people going back to playing smaller tournament series as well. The 3-man and 5-man local series that offer cash prizes are an overall better option than playing big-name events, as they're easier to find players for individual events, cheaper to play per-person, and give a better chance for coming home with a win and a real prize.

It's all about the incentives to get the players to come out and have them keep coming back. If your league is just a money pit sucking the players dry, you're going to run out of people willing to put their own money up to play.

I stopped because all of the people I liked to play with got out of the sport. Sucks though because now I have to find other people to play with

so your saying its only ok to keep playing events if your pro or work in the industry...

I play events at Fox4 and really enjoy it, its large enough to make it feel like it matters but not big enough to be really expensive

this. and I noticed in my area some people are more focused on local events as opposed to national because the prizes are so much better (luxes, lots of cash, etc.) and theyre a lot cheaper

Happened to me too, then I got back in this year. The team I play for is actually at a field that's a two hour drive from my house, but I've been playing locally on weekends when I don't have team practice. Just from playing at the local field on Sundays I've found some of the people I used to play with are still around, and there's new regulars that you get to know pretty quickly just from hanging out at the field. Paintballs a community game, everyone's friends once you've played together a few times, and soon enough you have a great new group of people to play with.
