well what I said for the problem you showed was right. There is no doubt in that.

edit does it say anything about how the interest is compounded or paid?

Nevermind got it, was tacking the interest ONTO the principal. Forgot that the principal doesn't keep generating interest.

It is not 1.1 that you are compounding; that would be if you went annually compounding with the given rate of interest

it is 1.0083333333333333^60 * PV = FV

for monthly compounding at the given rate

hence PV=FV/1.645308934 ; 1.645308934 = 1.008333333333333^60

Sorry to hear that you got no calc NPC

Just use linear approximation for tough calculations like the one needed to find 1.08333333333333^60 ; you'll be aight:

L(x)=f(a) + f'(a)(x-a)

I don't think you can really even call this an issue of math man, as an adult it should be common knowledge.

"What lump sum __ invested at 9% , compounded monthly , grows to 69000 in 13 years?"

Not sure where you found some of those numbers with the given problem. Where did you get the 45,000 in the numerator from? Why are you dividing the annual rate of interest by the number of years for which this debt has been outstanding? You divide by the amount over which the period has been divided into. ex: 1year/12months, 1year/52months, 1year/365days

Answer: 69000/([1+(.09)/12]^60)=PV
